Modern Warfare 2 Opens with Terror

I have a PS3 as well, but not a fan of playing FPS on a console. They just feel clumsy to me in general. Killzone 2 is the only FPS on a console that I've played for a while. And another thing that I've heard some complaints on the PC side about the scheme that IW is doing is that it gives the guy who hosts the game a nice little advantage compared to everyone else. A ping of 0 ms, since one of the players is the person who hosts the game. Well like I said before, I'll wait and see.

Got a ton of games coming up that I need to play, so probably not really going to miss MW2. I still play COD4 and now I have Borderlands, Dragon Age: Origins (ordered the CE) and Champions Online to play and Left 4 Dead 2 is coming soon as well. And for PS3 I have Agarest: Generations of War, Batman: Arkham Asalym and Valkyria Chronicles to play. And probably going to get Tekken 6 in a while so my significant other and I can beat each other up.

Well when I get borderlands then we need to add each other. My PlayStation network name is ***drum roll. Dirtpoorchris.

I have a PS3...but it gets no love. My XBox dominates my game playing. The PC holds the advantage on FPS since keyboard and mouse allows for more "point and click" as opposed to motion to swing the sights around on an enemy. But I think that the industry is seeing the consoles emerge as the primary playing platforms. It's seen in the decision to not have dedicated servers and such. I've also been a console player over PC. PC is for MMOGs. MW2 is going to be good though, regardless of platform. It all depends on what one wants out of multiplayer more than anything else. There's a co-op mode, and I think that's going to be all I really play in terms of multi-player. If I really want to play matches against people, I'll just end up playing Halo 3.

I've always been both, but with the crappy releases on computers and good releases on consoles I've gone over to consoles more. Plus, I'm an achievement whore. Seriously, maxing out a game is the funnest thing ever. It doesn't really surprise me though considering that I've been maxing out games since Super Nintendo.

I would be interested to know what service members have to say about a FPS terrorist character being available in a game like this.

They'd probably say something like, "I'm not going to buy that game. Do you have any important questions?"

Better yet, what would they think of a FPS game whereby you play an Iraqi resistance fighter?

I'd play it.

EDIT: Actually, I've been playing Bad Company nonstop for the past few weeks, and that involves being a Russian and shooting at Americans. Go figure.

Do you plan on getting Bad Company 2?

Definitely. Bad Company actually has some of my favorite multiplayer; I would rank it as good as CoD4, if not better. It definitely has hands down the best multiplayer sniper experience I've ever played.

Tried Boarderlands out?

Tried Boarderlands out?

Nope. It doesn't look that good to me, and seemed way too played out. I don't care how many guns the damn game has.

I might have my friend get it out from Blockbuster for me (he works there so I can get games for free indefinitely) but we're currently trying to max Left 4 Dead and then we're gonna get Resident Evil 5 so it'll be a while.

RE5 pissed me off so much. I hate that game. With a passion. Maybe because a friend of mine made me play it 4 times through and he's trying to get me to play it again to finish off achievements. But I call the game broken for sure.

It's a shooter with survival horror controls.

Battlefield and CoD are two FPS games that come from different worlds within the FPS universe.
I don't think that one could be called a "better" in reference to the other.

Oh the hell with that, call of duty is way better. :2razz:

Level 21 here.
Been playing it at work, it's really addictive. :2razz:

I haven't gotten it yet (finding time for games is pretty tough). But it looks really good. I'm renting it up from Gamefly next. I want to play that Dragon Age too though

I don't mind it. Not a real big fan of FPS though. Bioshock was the exception.

Dragon age is most likely the best rpg of 2009, just like batman arkham asylum was the best action game so far.

Dragon age has gotten 9.5 from gamespot, and that's a rare score if I've ever seen one.

Borderlands is good if you also liked the kind of loot system that the Diablo series has. But if you didn't like Diablos system and not a big fan of FPS in general, I wouldn't recommend. The story kinda flops at the end too.

And picking up my copy of the Collector's Edition of Dragon Age today. PC version got a 9.5 on Gamespot, 9.0 for PS3 version and 8.5 for 360. I hear there's a bit of child possession and sacrifice in the game. I wonder how that'll go through with some people. :2razz: Not sure yet if you can participate though.

Maybe someone will come up with an interactive "Holocaust" game. It could start out, actually bulding your own death camp, then round up the Jews, kill them. Hell, there could be a , "Nuremberg", version to go along with it, where all the Nazis can be found innocent and go free. Hell, Hitler could even survive the war in that game. it could coincide with an interactive 9/11 game, where you get to pilot one of the aircraft into your building of choice: Sear Tower, Prudential Building, any given state capital, etc.

Is everyone else as psyched as I am about crap like this?

Well no, I’m not psyched about that. Sounds like a rather ****ty game. What idiotic studio would pick up that kind of thing. There seems to be no real point to it, and no real appeal save for skin heads and that’s a rather small market. And the 9/11 game seems rather pointless. There are already flight simulators out there that you can purchase without the baggage, and again there seems to be no real purpose for it or market save for maybe islamists which again, probably are a small market for xbox games.

I’d say if you’re psyched for those I hope you aren’t a game manufacturer. You’re bound to cause them to go broke.

On the other hand, putting a terrorist infiltration level into a game that is without question going to massively sell, with the story of it not that you’re literally a terrorist but that you’re trying to infiltrate said group to take them down, likely won’t affect sales all too much and has a bit of a point that is sellable, unlike the ones you described.

I prefer common ****ing sense, but that's just me.

My point, in my first post on this thread, was in response to the lack of outrage at the game, because it's just a game. I was curious to see if those same people would cool with a game where you get to kill household pets, or some other act that is a helluva lot less PC. Would you be ok with a game where you bury house cats up to their necks, then run them over a with a lawnmower? Would you still be as blazais about it?

Hell, it's just a game.

Would I be cool with it?

How do you mean? Cool as in want to buy it? Probably not, unless it was part of a over arching game that I really was looking forward to and it had some kind of logical and decent reason for having a section where you kill household pets or some other type of thing. If that was the entire point of the game, I probably wouldn’t be “cool” with it in regards to wanting to buy it cause that sounds uninteresting and ****ty.

If by “cool” with it you mean okay with it coming out? Definitely.

See, I’m this crazy thing, its called a conservative. I believe in the free market. I believe in personal choice. I believe in personal responsabilities. I believe in parents actually parenting their kids. I believe that I can only be offended if I let myself be offended.

If I don’t like a game then I won’t buy it. Simple as that. If someone puts an extremely horrible thing that I greatly disagree with in the middle of a game I absolutely want, then I’ll have to weigh that issue and either buy it or not. What I’m not going to do is demand they remove it, or change their game, or god forbid that the game is banned. That’s idiotic.

I think the Postal Series has a ton of offensive things in it. I also think it’s a ****ty game. Its one I’d never buy. This is doubly the case after the horrendous movie that was made on it. I still have no problem if they want to make a sequal.

GTA? Liesure Suit Larry? Mortal Kombat? I don’t care. If it offends me, I won’t buy it, simple as that.

Someone could make a game where a person must act out, while in the body of George Washington, every foul act uttered by Bob Saget during his Aristocrats joke while flying a plane into the WTC only to time travel back in time to bomb pearl harbor and then finally travel back in time once more to personally sodomize lincolns dead corpse. Fine, no problem. Make your game. I’m not going to protest it. I’m not going to demand its pulled from shelves. I don’t care.

Because if its really that offensive, if its really done in such poor taste, if its really so pointlessly low class….it won’t sell.

If it won’t sell it won’t be carried by stores

If it won’t be carried by stores no major label is going to buy it

If no major label signs it then there’s almost no budget for it

If its not budget for it it probably ends up as some ****ty flash game sitting on some random website on the net that no one but a few idiots ever see.

Ah, the wonders of the free market.

Well played sir, well played.

You don't play as a terrorist. You play as an undercover operative who works with the terrorist to gain their trust. This isn't the first game that's done that either.

We need to Ban 24. Last season they had a good guy character having to do bad things to try and convince the terrorists he was really on his side to do the greater good. This is outrageous and horrible and we need to protest and demand that 24 is never aired again

We also need to ban The Departed and Reservoir Dogs - they both had an undercover cop working with the mobsters while they killed civilians and other cops.

Every show/movie/game/etc that involves any act of terrorism should be banned. They only give terrorists more ideas on how to attack us. I'm sure Al-Q came up with 9/11 after watching Executive Decision or Air Force One.
