I too will be buying this game. From what I have researched on this video, it is completely optional, with a forewarning to what the scene contains. I believe Infinity Ward, put the scene into the game to try and make it as real as they could. I read that shooting the civilians will not be an easy task even for most gamers. Think of it this way, us gamers are always told how violent games desensitize us, but I will still have a hard time shooting civilians as a terrorist (even in a video game) but it shouldn't be removed. If anything, it will make the person playing the special forces side want to get these terrorists and bring them to justice even more. That's my outlook on it at least. Putting the player in the shoe's of the shooter, makes them realize what a terrible event it was (in the game), and more than likely will push them even harder to beat the game and bring the evil doer's to justice.
Anyway I also read that, the character is undercover , and basically has to go along with it in order to bridge the trust with these terrorists, otherwise face blowing the whole operation etc.

Counter Strike came out in 2003....and you could kill hostages.
People who get pissed off at MW2 are late to the game.
