Why? Nothing bad in the end happened. No harm no foul. They should have been paying attention, and now they'll face disciplinary action from their employers and the FAA. They have to face up to their consequences now. But no one was injured, so there's no reason to hunt them down and use terrible grammar.

In the end, flying is way safer than driving. If you get pissed off about that, I'd hate to see you in the car. The airline, that was a couple dudes in one plane not paying attention. But driving...think of how many people are roaming the roads completely not paying attention. Cars offer more threat to your life than planes.

It doesn't matter if you think the chance is minuscule. No one should be asleep nor should anyone be playing Nerd Quest while they are supposed to fly or watch the plane instruments or whatever to make sure nothing goes wrong.

These planes basically fly themselves; the pilots are just there for the takeoff and the landing, for the most part.

All they're guilty of is wasting two hours of their passengers' time, and throwing off their flight schedule as well.

Which they of course should be fired for.

What if something went wrong while they were sleeping on the job? The fact the plane has some sort of auto pilot is irrelevant. They should be legally punished. Its like arguing that you shouldn't punish someone who drives drunk or under the influence just because they haven't gotten into any accidents yet, he or she may not hit someone the majority of the time he or she drives drunk or under the influence of something else but there is the chance something can go wrong and it ends up costing someone's life.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Maybe they were listening to yet another awe inspiring Obama speech about health care.
It was the Austrasians, that hewed on bravely through the thick of the fight, it was they who found and cut down the Saracen King.

I thinks pilots somehow must think that if people are dumb enough to buy the they were on the computer or discussing work issues that it will lessen their punishment or reduce the chance of them getting fired. Playing Nerd's Quest, Virgin's quest or what the **** that game is called or chatting on political forums while on duty is just as bad as being asleep on duty. They should be fired and fined and possibly thrown in jail.
They were probably looking at cartoon porns.

    Only reasonable explanation.

What're they saying? They were so engrossed, so fascinated by a bureaucratic policy that they stopped watcing the plane? I've never seen a regulation manual so fasinating the I stopped watching the engine room for twenty minutes.

If they were that fascinated by whatever it was they were seeing on their computers, it wasn't a regulation manual they were looking at.

And they should be stripped of their licenses. It's completely unprofessional behavior.

And if the pilot in the other airplane hadn't been able to contact them? What if this regulation manual they were so assiduously studying hadn't let them go until the plan ran out of gas?

    Hmmm?

What if Balloon Boy got sucked into an engine?

What if they weren't at the controls when some mechanical/electronic casualty happened and the plane took a dive? That's what their asses are in those seats for. If they want to study company manuals, they can do it on the ground.
