War on coal

As far as generating electicity goes, we are very much energy independent.

No doubt, but the attack on energy includes, or at least should include our current predicament as it relates to oil production as well. America sits atop the greatest reserves of oil, coal, and shale in the world, yet never in a time like this would you find one other country refusing to exploit them in order to remain a healthy, and vibrant country.

The sheer lunacy of our current blindness when it comes to energy, in this country, and in fact the world is astonishing, and if we don't come to our senses, then we deserve what we sow.

You know if the environazis would work with the energy producers to achiever their goals of maintaining the environment, maybe it would work. But all they every do is say NO.

That's because the envirofascists arent motivated by any true concern for the environment.

We can't use windmills because it disrupts the Kennedy's view of the ocean.

You forgot that they kill birds, too.

Sounds like we're running out of options, that is if we leave it up to the environmental wackos.

It IS the irony, of course, that the Left screeches the loudest about "energy independence," yet objection to just about every form of energy production, no matter what it is, comes nearly exclusively FROM the Left.

Yep, I've read that the wind mills kill massive numbers of birds.

Maybe it doesn't matter unless it's a spotted owl.

There is a grave danger facing mankind. The danger is not from acid rain, global warming, smog, or the logging of rain forests, as environmentalists would have us believe. The danger to mankind is from environmentalism.

The fundamental goal of environmentalists is not clean air and clean water; rather it is the demolition of technological/industrial civilization. Their goal is not the advancement of human health, human happiness, and human life; rather it is a subhuman world where “nature” is worshipped like the totem of some primitive religion.

If the good of man were the aim of environmentalists, they would embrace the industry and technology that have eradicated the diseases, plagues, pestilence, and famines that brought wholesale death and destruction prior to the Industrial Revolution. They would embrace free enterprise and technology as the only solution to the relatively minor dangers that now exist—minor compared to the risks of living in a non-technological world.

But by word and deed, they demonstrate their contempt for human life.

The Ayn Rand Institute: Against Environmentalism

Encyclopedia Britannica defines environmentalism as a "political and ethical movement that seeks to improve and protect the quality of the natural environment through changes to environmentally harmful human activities; through the adoption of forms of political, economic, and social organization that are thought to be necessary for, or at least conducive to, the benign treatment of the environment by humans; and through a reassessment of humanity's relationship with nature. In various ways, environmentalism claims that living things other than humans, and the natural environment as a whole, are deserving of consideration in reasoning about the morality of political, economic, and social policies."

Implicit in the foregoing definition is the belief that human activity - most notably business activity in capitalist economies - is harmful to the environment. This view is founded on the premise that profit-based economic systems are inherently plagued by greed and a willingness to exploit the environment to whatever degree is necessary for maximum profit, without regard for any resultant ecological harm. Consequently, many environmentalist groups are hostile to capitalism and embrace socialism as a preferable economic system.
