White House attacks worry moderate Democrats

A White House effort to undermine conservative critics is generating a backlash on Capitol Hill — and not just from Republicans.
“It’s a mistake,” said Rep. Jason Altmire, a moderate Democrat from western Pennsylvania. “I think it’s beneath the White House to get into a tit for tat with news organizations.”
Altmire was talking about the Obama administration’s efforts to undercut Fox News. But he said his remarks applied just the same to White House efforts to marginalize the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a powerful business lobby targeted for its opposition to climate change legislation.
“There’s no reason to gratuitously piss off all those companies,” added another Democrat, Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia. “The Chamber isn’t an opponent.”
POLITICO reported earlier this week on an all-fronts push by the White House to cut the legs out from under its toughest critics, whether it’s the Chamber, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck and the rest of the Fox News operation.
White House Communications Director Anita Dunn has defended the push, saying the administration made “a fundamental decision that we needed to be more aggressive in both protecting our position and in delineating our differences with those who were attacking us.”
Obama had better stop screwing around with Fox, and move on.
"He who does not think himself worth saving from poverty and ignorance by his own efforts, will hardly be thought worth the efforts of anybody else." -- Frederick Douglass, Self-Made Men (1872)
"Fly-over" country voted, and The Donald is now POTUS.

I think the Obama adminsistration can't help but to **** up and continue sticking their foot into their mouth. Be it the plethra of czars saying stupid things (praising Mao for instance), or the President rallying against a press agency.

Get back to work bastard! Jesus, last I checked we had two wars going on, Gitmo was still open, etc. Quit ****ing with Fox News and get to work.

This guy is really starting to piss me off.

Obama is definitely doing himself no favors by crossing swords with a popular network such as Fox.

"Obama do not defend yourself. Don't attempt to even discuss our lies and untruths about you or anything in your administration. You will look bad.", Jedi mind trick off.

My bad for stopping the thread. It just seems that FoxNews can spread lies and give false impressions but cannot be called out. It is quite annoying.

I'm personally glad that the White House is calling out Fox.

I think what the WH did was a blunder. What they should be doing is hitting back with facts without naming names.

One of the things I like about Howard Dean is he figured out the best way to hit the right back with their smear attacks was with facts and not head on with left wing smear. It paid off in the 06 and 08 elections.

The other thing that the WH has done is inadvertantly increased the viewership of FOX.

While I will defend FOX to make an assss out of themselves, I would hope the administraition would be above all of that.

    Just my 2 cents

As opposed to the other "news" outlets that don't ask any questions or say anything critical of Obama at all.

The news shows on FOX are not the problem, it is the opinion commentators who go too far. But, FOX is no more propagating lies than all the others are through their omission of any fact checking of the statements of the current administration.

Just turn it on and wait 30 seconds.

Wednesday morning (context, complaining about the Obama admin):

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y05lVO_izCY"]YouTube - Dana Perino admits that the Bush White House essentially froze out MSNBC towards the end[/ame]

Newsweek called *FoxNews* un-american, not the President!

Silly mistake right? Yet it happens all the time and you will excuse it. Of course you will. Simple dumb mistake.
