A White House effort to undermine conservative critics is generating a backlash on Capitol Hill — and not just from Republicans.
“It’s a mistake,” said Rep. Jason Altmire, a moderate Democrat from western Pennsylvania. “I think it’s beneath the White House to get into a tit for tat with news organizations.”
Altmire was talking about the Obama administration’s efforts to undercut Fox News. But he said his remarks applied just the same to White House efforts to marginalize the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a powerful business lobby targeted for its opposition to climate change legislation.
“There’s no reason to gratuitously piss off all those companies,” added another Democrat, Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia. “The Chamber isn’t an opponent.”
POLITICO reported earlier this week on an all-fronts push by the White House to cut the legs out from under its toughest critics, whether it’s the Chamber, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck and the rest of the Fox News operation.
White House Communications Director Anita Dunn has defended the push, saying the administration made “a fundamental decision that we needed to be more aggressive in both protecting our position and in delineating our differences with those who were attacking us.”
Obama had better stop screwing around with Fox, and move on.

I think the Obama adminsistration can't help but to **** up and continue sticking their foot into their mouth. Be it the plethra of czars saying stupid things (praising Mao for instance), or the President rallying against a press agency.

Get back to work bastard! Jesus, last I checked we had two wars going on, Gitmo was still open, etc. Quit ****ing with Fox News and get to work.

This guy is really starting to piss me off.

Obama is definitely doing himself no favors by crossing swords with a popular network such as Fox.

"Obama do not defend yourself. Don't attempt to even discuss our lies and untruths about you or anything in your administration. You will look bad.", Jedi mind trick off.

My bad for stopping the thread. It just seems that FoxNews can spread lies and give false impressions but cannot be called out. It is quite annoying.

I'm personally glad that the White House is calling out Fox.

I think what the WH did was a blunder. What they should be doing is hitting back with facts without naming names.

One of the things I like about Howard Dean is he figured out the best way to hit the right back with their smear attacks was with facts and not head on with left wing smear. It paid off in the 06 and 08 elections.

The other thing that the WH has done is inadvertantly increased the viewership of FOX.

While I will defend FOX to make an assss out of themselves, I would hope the administraition would be above all of that.

Just my 2 cents

Got an example of a "FoxNews can spread lies"?

As opposed to the other "news" outlets that don't ask any questions or say anything critical of Obama at all.

The news shows on FOX are not the problem, it is the opinion commentators who go too far. But, FOX is no more propagating lies than all the others are through their omission of any fact checking of the statements of the current administration.

Just turn it on and wait 30 seconds.

Wednesday morning (context, complaining about the Obama admin):

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y05lVO_izCY"]YouTube - Dana Perino admits that the Bush White House essentially froze out MSNBC towards the end[/ame]

Newsweek called *FoxNews* un-american, not the President!

Silly mistake right? Yet it happens all the time and you will excuse it. Of course you will. Simple dumb mistake.

I agree, the other outlets are just as bad.

No no... something specific. You pick one as I assume due to your comment, they happen every 30 seconds.

Au contraire - it's no more a mistake than Olberman's "Worst Person in the World" segment is valid news. Try again.

Pick out a lie from "FoxNews".

Editorializing the news.

A few years back Reuters, in a lead in to a news article about China called China's president a stone faced dictator. That is not news, it is an editorial opinion, yet we have a tendancy to accept it as news.

To me, news should be as factual as possible without opinion. We tend to get in as much milage out of controversial news item as possible which results in opinionated news.

Most news can be reported in a few paragraphs. But the tendancy, especially when it comes to hot items is to regurgitate the same facts (or missfacts) as possible to fill up the required space in order to call themselves a newspaper. This so called news then takes on a life of its own as the public clammers for more villians. That is not responsible news reporting, that is done for market share and advertising dollars.

Oh silly me. It should be called Fox and Friends morning discussion ignore anything we say it is our opinion.

The problem is that most folks cannot tell the difference between truth and commenting.

Like MSNBC's "Morning Joe" or "Good Morning America".
People assume a lot around here. I do not like MSNBC or CNN either. "Good Morning America" doesn't really comment, but when they do - it is more clear.

Pick out a lie from "FoxNews".
I did. And like my genius mind prophesied - you ignored it.

Technically, the news should really never use verbs other than "said," "did," "is," etc. -- simple verbs which say what happened, but don't "describe" what happened.

So, when a "news" story says something like "the Press Secretary retreated into ambiguity by claiming . . . " -- well, that's editorial.

You'll be hard-pressed to find any news story which passes that test.

I did. And like my genius mind prophesied - you ignored it.

Correction - I "rejected" it since it's not a news program. I'll help you out:

Fox News Programming:

America's NewsHQ (weekends)
Fox News Watch (Saturday's 11:30, 2:30)
Fox Report (Weekdays 7pm)
Happening New (Weekdays 11am)
Special Report (Weekdays 6pm)
Live Desk (Weekdays 1pm)

Fox Opinion / Commentator Shows:

Fox & Friends
Cavuto
Glen Beck
Hannity
Huckabee

Does that help out? Now... how about those "Fox News" lies you promised?

"You'll be hard-pressed to find any news story which passes that test. "

That's all part of the dumbing down of America. From what I have been able to gather, most journalism classes now teach that editorializing in a news story is the right thing to do. My godson's journalism teacher argues that it is the responsibility of the reporter to bring people to their point of view when writing news stories. When I confronted this clown, she defended her position by stating that the average person does not have enough knowledge to make the decision so since the reporter has done the investigation, he is more able to tell the people what is important and how it should be interpreted.

Talk about juevos! Needless to say, I filed a formal complaint with the college and also needled to say, it went nowhere. After all, she has tenure.

I sympathize --- it's apparent people cannot distinguish between what is a news program and what is a commentary program designed to elicit opinions and give opinions BASED ON a news story. In fact, our own White House is attempting (because they damn well know the difference) to clump all of Fox's programming together, which is dishonest at best. Just like all other cable media outlets, there is news and then there is opinion / commentary shows.

However, yes, it is dumbing down America to merge the two things together when they are clearly not together. Having a journalism prof mix the two together simply confirms that she'll damage a many new generations of fake journalists who will inject opinion into "news", therefore redefining "news" as a synonym for "opinion". That has one outcome --- the irrelevance of media in the future.

Oh pish posh...

He'll just try to slyly reset the Sedition Act to 1798 standards and have us all done away with.

Oh please don't argue with idiots they are trying to divert attention from the facts and truth. Obama has been caught in lies over a hundred and fifty times and I envite you to google it to see them as I am tied of of doing the Granola Liberals homework for them. All of the attacks on Fox News is clearly seen by people with the ability to think for themselves as another page out of the Alimskey game book. When you are caught in lies as Obama, Pelosi, Reid and every liberal who opens there mouth these days have been caught in they try to divert or obfuscate to avoid the subject. One of Obama's main ploy is to accuse you enemies of what you yourself are doing. In Obama's case that could include just about anything that is underhanded dishonest, Socialistic and worse.
Obama has lied too much and made too many outlandish claims he couldn't prove as well as making out right racist statements while all the time spending money like a welfare recipient who knows it's not coming out of his pocket as he parties and makes million dollar trips spends tens of thousands of dollars to fly a guy in to make pizza for lunch.
Now finally even Liberals are beginning to catch on that Obama has done nothing and every time one of his goofy plans comes up short he just makes another promise he has no intention of following through with because he knows before everyone else catches on that they are amateurish and have little chance of working. So what does he do he lashes out like a child caught with cookie crumbs all over his face claiming it was Billy who took ate the cookies, Billy's the bad gut he even drank all the milk. Obama is operating just like the Chicago street thug he has been for years. Oh yes some will claim he was an Organizer. Well what did he do at that job other than Black mail and threaten businesses to bow to his will. Some call it coordination in the Weimar Republic they called it Gleichschaltung and it was a way to avoid operating outside their Constitution. Wow that's Obama all over the place.
Obama is attacking some media trying to garner support from his disciples and next he'll be moving to shut then up permanently as his pal Hugo Chavz has done. Keep in mind the play books his Czars and appointees follow include those of Mao, Marx, Hitler and others, and as the truth comes out more and more about this administration it's no surprise that people are beginning to pull back from Obama.
