White House attacks worry moderate Democrats

The MSNBC guy said he hired "smart" people and you immediately turned that into "liberal" people. It seems that as people become more educated they become more liberal. The less educated tend to gravitate toward conservatism.

Indoctrination.

The MSNBC guy said he hired "smart" people and you immediately turned that into "liberal" people. It seems that as people become more educated they become more liberal. The less educated tend to gravitate toward conservatism.

For instance: Sean Hannity is conservative and he dropped out of college; Rachel Maddow is liberal and she has a doctorate from Oxford. Dick Cheney is conservative and he dropped out of Yale; Obama is liberal and has a Harvard Law Degree. George Bush Sr. is conservative and has a Bachelor's degree; Bill Clinton, a liberal was a Rhodes Scholar. Keith Olberman, started as a sports announcer, graduated from an Ivy League college. Sarah Palin, started as a sports announcer, and she was bounced from 4 different colleges before she barely managed to graduate from a tiny midwestern college. So when you seek out a smart person you are more likely to end up with a liberal.

Don't get me wrong: a mere college degree doesn't mean that you are smart and some brilliant people do not have one. But if having a college degree is a job requirement at MSNBC, the channel is more likely to end up with liberals than conservatives. Hannity would not qualify for a job at MSNBC had his resume popped up from the fax machine. But MSNBC was not intentionally trying to "create a leftist version" of the news.

:rofl
Oh yeah, all those liberals in the Democratic party are just soooo well educated and ridiculously smart.
Valadictorians all.

That is silly. Do you have any evidence to back that up?

Or is it more hyper partisan bluster?

He's right. It's because our universities have become Liberal re-education camps.

He's right. It's because our universities have become Liberal re-education camps.

Not really. Many conservatives go to Christian and Catholic colleges etc. Many Conservatives go to liberal colleges.

No hard data backs up those silly allegations.

It's just silly.

Although I do agree with the indoctrination to a point.

He's right. It's because our universities have become Liberal re-education camps.

It's not just universities either. Secondary education force liberalism at the students.

Back then, I used to be a jingoistic zombified conservative. I felt like the United States was the best nation in the history of mankind, that we could do practically no wrong as a country, and that (for the most part) if you had done nothing wrong you had nothing to fear from the justice system.

When Bush first ran for office, I was taken in by his rhetoric, hook line and sinker. When he was elected I was overjoyed. When he first responded to 9/11 I was proud.

I was, in short, a water-carrier for Rush Limbaugh, the Republican party and for the United States in general. I had drunk the Kool-Aid, dropped the acid, and so on.

In short, you remind me of a liberal version of me.

It took me a few years and a little help from my friends, but figured out a number of things. Yeah, the US is a pretty cool place to live, but we're a long way from our founding ideals, much less from being faultless. The two parties are functionally sock puppets, manipulated masterfully by the interests which bribe them with money, influence and baubles. Conservative ideas are great in theory, but we are a very long way past the time when we didn't need a little help from our friends to get by.

Maybe you'll get there too. Time will tell.

I can't wait to get where you are but I guess I'll have to suffer as me in the meantime.

And I'm no kool-aide lover; the sophistry and duplicity of both political parties is obvious. Obama, however, is much more dependent on ordinary people for his success and he has shown the most amount of independence from the corporate political masters (he is pushing financial regulation, healthcare reform, cap & trade). I would prefer: a) a much more aggressive jobs program, b) prosecution of Bush Administration officials and war profiteers, c) breaking up "too big to fail" financial institutions. But I realize that even though we elected Obama we have not reached the "Promised Land" yet. We still got a lot of work to do.

It's not to say that a conservative can't get an education, but that the liberal viewpoint is always promoted, by professors, course selections, clubs, sponsored speakers. Not many conservatives are created in the university setting. There are many more liberals created.

There are some persuasive arguments that can be made from the liberal viewpoint, like environmentalism. And environmentalism is taught such that big-business conservatives are against environmentalism - it becomes an issue of the left. Our history as a dictator-supporting country through the Cold War does not help. Our actions in Latin America hurt us too. Touchstone issues like welfare, abortion, gay rights are all presented as the obvious position to have. A student that objects to even one of these positions is persecuted socially.

I happen to be pro-nation building so I take a lot of what they said with a grain of salt. Plus I had already been brainwashed in the Army to be conservative. I balanced that with some brainwashing at my liberal arts college.

a stunning too many of our kids in our universities today can't spell, can't add fractions, don't know the monroe doctrine...

if you want to become educated today in america you pretty much have to do it yourself

Yes, that IS the standard conceit of smug liberals everywhere, especially ones with no sense of history whatsoever.

Its a national trend. Obama routed McCain amongst the educated voting population and Democrats consistently do well with this group. There is nothing wrong with less educated people but I think conservatives take advantage of this group's inattention to politics. For instance: in West Virginia conservative tell the blue-collar coal workers that government regulation is harmful. Their Senator Robert Byrd rejected OSHA regulations; months later a mine collapses and kills some workers whose lives could have been saved had the rejected regulations been enacted into law. These workers are persuaded to vote against their own self-interest.

Yes - you no longer have to be "smart" to get IN to college.
Or to make it THROUGH college.
And by graduating or attending people infer that you ARE those things.

The Socialist agenda.

We'll never see the, "Promised Land", as long as PBO is president

Just so long as you realize that your "Promised Land" is another man's nightmare come true and that he will fight you every step of the way. Also, bear in mind that from where I'm sitting your beloved Obama looks just slightly left of the previous President. From our perspective on this side of the Atlantic, you're ALL right-wingers.

Yes, even you.

George W Bush graduated from Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA.

Anyone can nit pick intellectually dishonest hackery like you just posted.

Now instead of posting easy to disprove opinion, why don't you back it up with some hard evidence and not speculation.

Again speculation based on bull****. :doh

And yet Hannity has huge ratings compared to anyone on PMSNBC, so who is the smart one here?

I think the stock holders would laugh at your assumption.

Now I have to ask you the Barney Frank question: "on what planet do you spend most of your time". It was well documented during the last election that the educated population are overwhelmingly liberal.

"The key voting block that put Obama over the top is the block of voters with "postgraduate" education. They voted 58% for Obama and only 40% for McCain." Half Sigma: The power of the most educated voters

George W. Bush graduated from Yale because his father was a prestigious alumnus of the university. But his performance in office, his child-like speech patterns, his dull logic and his numerous failures demonstrated that he was working with a high school education at best. So I don't think you want to parade him around as a symbol of conservative brain-power.

Hannity is an entertainer not a journalist; that why his ratings are so high. Fox is a cable news channel that is willing to sacrifice its journalistic integrity in exchange for ratings. Thus they have high ratings but almost no credibility.

Look at the Tea-Bag movement. Fox spent considerable resources on this anti-Obama campaign; while no other station paid them any attention. Now, this story has faded quickly and the public option and all the other bills they opposed are enjoying broad public support despite Fox's best efforts to derail the process. Pundits are calling it a political premature ejaculation.

Yes, even you.

Well if you are left of me you must be in what has been called the "looney left". There are extremes in any political ideology but I think we risk falling off the ledge when we go too close to the fringes of our beliefs. But I have to admit that you are the first person on this earth to ever call me a right-winger!!!

NEWS FLASH from America to Arcana: In this country it is an insult to call another person a "right-winger". The image is of a crusty old, uneducated, redneck, from the south who can hold a racist sign but can't read it; who can scream against the public option then admit that they support Medicare; who are afraid of Iranian nukes but wants to continue sending oil money to the Middle East. So when you hurl such a vicious insult at a person be prepared to back your case up with substantial evidence.

You want evidence that Americans are more right wing than Euorpeans? :rofl

Gimme a break. You all have no idea what "left" means.

Your average europeon right winger would be a left winger on this side of the pond

As I said . . . no sense of history . . . whatsoever.

For some reason you are afraid to jump into the pool. You need to read the book called "What's the Matter with Kansas" by "historian" Thomas Frank What's the Matter with Kansas? - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. He documents how conservatives have turned poor communities into Republicans that are adverse to their own economic interest. So you may mock my "sense of history" but there are notable historians who confirm my position.

Coming from a leftist site going on strictly an exit pole? :rofl

I asked for real evidence, not hackery.

George W. Bush graduated from Yale because his father was a prestigious alumnus of the university. But his performance in office, his child-like speech patterns, his dull logic and his numerous failures demonstrated that he was working with a high school education at best. Again any proof? Dident think so.

This is a lie. Hannity does not claim to be a journalist and his show is not advertised as such.

Look at the Tea-Bag movement. Fox spent considerable resources on this anti-Obama campaign; while no other station paid them any attention. Now, this story has faded quickly and the public option and all the other bills they opposed are enjoying broad public support despite Fox's best efforts to derail the process. #1 It is not an Anti-Obama campaign, it is an anti-tax and government health care campaign.

#2 Broad public supprt??? What planet do you live on?

"CNN Poll: Half of Americans Disagree With Obama" - CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - CNN Poll: Half the country disagrees with Obama on issues - Blogs from CNN.com

Since when is 49% broad public support?

#3 Other networks are rallying around Fox...

"White House's Fox News Boycott Attempt Prompts Network Revolt

The White House attempted to block Fox News from a round of interviews with "pay czar" Kenneth Feinberg Thursday, but the Washington bureau chiefs of the five TV networks included in the White House pool refused to interview Feinberg unless Fox News was included.
" - Media Conglomerates Rally Around Fox News - The Something Awful Forums

Got any more unsubstantiated partisan hackery to spout?

Gimme a break. You all have no idea what "left" means.

I am aware that Europe may be more progressive than the U.S. at this time because most your countries are older and thus further along in the developmental process. But that advantage is because of age not because of any superior wisdom or world view.

Also, if I'm "right-wing" what do you call McCain and other moderate Republicans??? By lumping me in with them you blur important ideological lines and render the term useless. So, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to spare a few minutes of your precious 6 month European annual vacation to
deepen your analysis and learn to distinguish between the American left and our evil twins on the right.

"Afraid to jump into" what "pool"?

The pool of knowledge where one must sink or swim. You refuse to admit that Republicans have mislead the uneducated masses of the midwest into supporting policies that harm their own communities. Instead you claim that my statement is based on some unspecified historical inaccuracy. I cannot dispute you until I know which historical fact you are challenging. So we are at a stalemate because you don't want to throw your argument into the pool of public discourse out of fear it may get drowned.
