Cheney: Stop ?dithering? on Afghanistan - White House- msnbc.com

WASHINGTON - Former Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday night accused the White House of dithering over the strategy for the war in Afghanistan and urged President Barack Obama to "do what it takes to win."

This guy is really getting more looney by the day. His record of making the right decisions as far a war policies go stinks. As he was engaging in his Iraq war policy and the lead up to the war. Generals and advisors were strongly recommening that up too 600,000 troops would be need there in order to "do what it takes to win". Cheney fired the General and ignored the advise of all of the military advisors that took the wrong stance in every area. Deciding on a much smaller force and Rumsfeld then promised those soldiers that they would soon have flowers rained upon them by liberated Iraqies? Cheney and Bush DITHERED on a troop surge for over 5 YEARS before finally deciding on the "surge". They virtually took a hands off policy reguarding Afghanistan for 6 years and let the situation deteriorated into what we see today. He and Bush took a stance of failure from day one and ignored all logical recommendations that involved "doing the right thing" by his Generals. in fact they fired a large majority of them.

President Obama has already added 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan. Instead of firing generals for speaking their minds he is weighing our nations options and rightfully so. The next step we make reguarding Afghanistan could be very costly and needs to be done properly. Mr Cheney rushed to judgement and rushed our country to war..all for the wrong reasons in the wrong place in every circumstance.

With his record Cheney AGAIN looks like a complete and utter fool when he makes statments such as these.

Obama has to consider long and hard what his own general is telling him. Sounds like he isn't listening, ignoring advise. Hypocrite.

Everyone is screaming for Obama to make a decision for the sake of our troops HE has in harms way.

The indecisive buffoon is "dithering" or fiddling while afghanistan burns....

I agree. However I don't like it when former presidents and vice presidents make negative public comments about a sitting president.

I don't either, but Cheney is owed. He had to endure endless character assassination while sitting.

Clinton/carter broke this rule, and I am afraid, its gone forever... Plus Obama non stop blames EVERYTHING on Bush and Cheney.... Obama needs to govern now, not campaign for the past.

I thought Obama increased the amount of soldiers to Afghanistan. Cheney needs to get back to his little hut and be silent. He is no longer in power.

I don't remember you voicing concern when Clinton criticized Bush.

Character assassination implies that an inaccurate picture of the person is being made. In this case, the character descriptions (lack thereof) were accurate.

;)

Cheney was right, they didn't need 600,000 troops to take Iraq. And now you are critizing them for not surging faster!? Ridiculous.

I do think Afghanistan has been the forgotten war, but that is because it is very difficult to win there.

They never proved that Cheney benefitted from all the Halliburton contracts.

So you're limiting the character assassination to Halliburton? I was talking about the Darth Vader comments.

cheney, like mcchrystal and gates, only goes public with his disagreements after obama betrays private confidences

mcchrystal sent the prez a SECRET ASSESSMENT on august 1

obama blitzed five sunday talks on september 20 and LIED, saying he was still awaiting the top to bottom review he was sitting on and he hadn't yet been asked for reinforcements

BOB WOODWARD exposed the president's prevarications the NEXT DAY when he leaked the general's report in the post

cheney/bush was asked as a courtesy to do a comprehensive study of all goings on pertaining to afghanistan and secret it on the sly to the incoming admin

indeed, obama used cheney's data as the basis for his entire "new, comprehensive strategy" for afghanistan announced on march 27

but on last sunday's cnn rahm the ram complained his team was left in the dark by the previous white house and had to "start from scratch"

it is honor which brings darth veep out of his cave

bush, meanwhile, is the perfect exemplar of how an ex president should conduct himself

perhaps not the greatest chief exec we've ever had, the man has class in defeat america hasn't seen since 41

afghanistan is KILLING this president

afghanistan is obama's war, because of the way he campaigned so hard on the topic

it is what it is

whenever cheney breaks silence, obama's butt gets badly bruised

when's the last time you heard anyone mention the prosecution of the cia?

Gee, I don't see Carter anywhere either.

*crickets*

When Cheney is involved, it's best to sit down quietly and listen carefully and intently to what he has to say. Listen to his plans and what he thinks we should do. Then do the opposite.

Also, I think he should be in jail.

For what????

It doesn't mean he's wrong, and it doesn't make the stark amateurism of this administration any less grating.

There are real stakes involved here; this isn't some college exercise.

I've got a perfect spot on my wall for a license plate signed by him ....when he makes it in prison. (actually 2 spots);)

If you have to ask that, you don't pay attention to the government.

I pay some attention. I don't think he's going to prison. He didn't do anything wrong.

The Dems will keep wasting energy on their witch hunt of the past, instead of focusing on the future.....
You acan't have a 'victim' without a past...;)
