Cheney: Stop ‘dithering’ on Afghanistan troops

Right. Criticizing the President is now, suddenly, "bashing the troops."

Goldendog, call Karl Rove; he might have a job for you.

Yes that is a message that the Right and Dick Cheney clearly wants to send our troops on the ground in Afghanistan.
Amazing that you can complain about the way other people suposedly dont care about the troops, while at the same time, believing that:

-Signals of indecision out of Washington do NOT hurt our allies and do NOT embolden our adversaries
-The White House does NOT need to stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger
-It is NOT time for President Obama to do what it takes to win a war he has repeatedly and rightly called a war of necessity.

Moderator's Warning:
Let's not debate the members here. Let's debate their positions. Telling people to shut up will receive consequences as well.

Only the most rabid of hyper partisans would try and connect Cheney's comments on Obama's inaction as some kind of "troop bashing."

Cheney's distorted comments towards the commander in cheif while ignoring that the current situation in Afghanistan is one that he directly had a hand in creating..is bashing at the moral of the troops.....YES IT IS.

In that case, every democratic congress person has been bashing the troops for the previous 8 years.

I'm sure that if I bothered to look, you repeatedly criticized Bush and Cheney throughout their terms, so you also "bashed" the troops according to your own definition.

Personally I think that for the future of the Republican party that Dick Cheney is the perfect spokesperson on these issues...his record speaks for itself.....

Yeah. When Harry Reid got up and declared that "we've lost" in Iraq, no, somehow, that wasn't bashing the troops.

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why.

It's complicated by people like you who only wish to cut-n-run.

Attempts to belittle your opponent, while a common tactic here...... does not further one's argument of the issues.

Link?.......

Or when Murtha announced that troops were guilty of murder before their trial even started. (they were innocent)

Or Kerry said, "And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the — of — the historical customs, religious customs"

Howard Dean, ""The idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong,"

I could go on and on....

Were you simply not paying attention at the time? It was . . . kind of a big deal.

Speaking of dithering...Was it lost before the "Surge" that took Cheney and Bush 5 years to make a decision on? After turning down the recommedations of experienced miltary people that were telling them up to 600,000 to "Do the job correctly"?
The ones that Cheney fired.

Cheney has ZERO credibility when it comes to making sound military decisions.

Just calling it like I see it.

Please, get your chronology straight, if you're going to make claims. It didn't take 5 years for the '07 Offensive to launch. And, no one reccomended 600,000 troops...lol....where'd you get that from?

Those events are completely urelated. The 600,000 we for the invasion and a heavy occupation. They chose to go light. This worked for the first 2 years. It would have been impossible to field 600,000 for 2 years. It was only after a civil war had begun that the decision to surge 50,000 was made. It was a great decision, when everyone who was advising the president were saying no to the surge. It worked. All credit is theirs. Don;t conflate the 2.

Obviously not. But it would have been lost if Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, et al., would have gotten their way.

Which is the point. We're hearing echoes of the exact same defeatist talk now, in this thread . . . and it isn't coming from Cheney.

Can't those people you named get their way now?

What is stopping them?

Because they all know that if they have their way they'll end their political careers forever. They have to figure out a way to lose the war and make it look like someone else's fault.

What would winning look like?

What, to this?

What it was ..was an opinion which noone can now say is true or false until our troops are out of Iraq & we see what happens. I hope things will stabilize there but fear that the Iraqis savages will simply resort to the tribal fighting that has been their hallmark for thousands of year.
Reid was premature to say the war was lost .....but anyone who now claims it is won...is equally premature.
Mission is not accomplished in Iraq & never was.

Stopping them from what? The surge already happened.

Stopping them from losing the war.

We won. It may still unravel, but the mission has been accomplished. We do still have troops chasing bad guys and training Iraqis. Hopefully Obama will do what he can to prevent unravelling. Leaving 50,000 troops probably does that.
