Dubai aims for tallest building

Re: Dubai building 1/2 mile high tower/ of Babel ??

Seen one, ya seem 'em all......;)

Maybe I am not amazed like the rest of you that it is possible to build a building so far up? The height of a building is a function of the size of the base/footprint, the design and the types of materials used. Eventually if you kept building you will tax the your materials due to the preasure created by gravity if you do not distribute the preasure accross a large area. If you can expand your base large enough and you can pump air and water up maybe the sky is the limit, literally.

Yes I am irreverent and I make make fun of virtaully anyone but you really need an imagination to accuse me of racism.

I have a friend who was a lead engineer in designing the water system. Funny thing was he never left LA. He considers this to be quite the feet (pun intended) as well, given it has never been done before.....

Well I am sure that he is very aware of the gravity of the situation. Your friend may well be celebrating his potential feat as he gets his feet wet in the designing the water system. ta ta ta ta !

Re: Dubai building 1/2 mile high tower/ of Babel ??

/shrug, I find it distasteful in using "some Korean Korean Big Ho Construction company" instead of the correct name.. which is used later on. And the whole OP is highly mined with attacks against the South Koreans and Dubai by using words like "bragging"..and so what if he is? He is answering the questions asked by the reporter and they are facts. It is that tall, it does require ground breaking new technology to get up that high and they should be proud of the engineering feat they are accomplishing.

Whne one reads this quote one can only beleive that that the guy is either bragging or puffing up his company with hyperbole. "This is kind of a project like the first exploration of the moon. Nobody can challenge it."

"Nobody can challenge it." - There is basic fact that people need to understand and that is "everything" will eventaully be challenged. The need to outperform to outdo to outscore to out explore is a a trait that makes us human.

And yes when I read "Nobody can challenge it." I can only think that the speaker is bragging.

He's saying, been there, done that....
America experienced the same childish exuberance like seventy years ago....
Do you really think it couldn't be done in the USA?
We don't bother anymore....:doh
Correct me if I'm wrong, American......;)
That said....
What do you call an ostentatious display of new found wealth by a Middle Easterner?......
Think about it......

I played around with using the Taj Mahal analogy instead of the Tower of Babel but then I am sure someone would have called me an anti-Hindite.

It don't take much to get that label around here....;)
I think it's nice that they are willing to provide us something to fly into....;)
