Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

Kinda like what's happening to Rush right now, huh?

I didn't know that any law had been passed banning Rush. Care to name one for me?

"I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom"

I am trying to figure out why his black friends are laying in piles upon piles. That seems like as odd way to keep your friends. Of course it is awfull nice of him to let the piles use his bathroom.

From the serious perspective I do understand that mixed race couples have more problems than straight race people and mixed race offspring are castigated by members of both of their source races.

I also think that you may be a bit unfair in castigating the JP as a racist. he may indeed be motivated against mixed marriages. This is the same as a person being against same sex marriage in that that opinion alone does not make one "homophobic".

What if this dude was black and he didn't want to marry a mixed race couple? Would all you Libbos still get torqued up about it?

I know plenty of black people that are vehimitly opposed to inter-racial marriages.

A majority of people, who don't like this political views, have denied him the right to conduct business. Not a law, but his rights were denied just the same.

You're not from here. You can't understand. You're in no place to judge.

So....where you come from, judges can tell people they can't get married because they won't be good parents? What country do you live in?

From a personal observation, not based on science, it seems that those poor breeding practices with dogs has resulted in less intelligence. A less healthy brain.

I'm sure that's true to a small extent. Of course, I'm not talking about those with brain conditions that are genetic. That certainly can happen, especially from inbreeding. Dalmations have a reputation for this. I've seen smart dalmations though. It depends upon responsible breeding.

As far as my question about mixed breeding in humans having more intelligence, I am curious to know if that could be true or not. I have daughter that is mixed and she is smarter then all get out. I've generally observed that mixed children seem to have an edge. But non of that is based on science, it is based on my biased opinion.

.

My mixed niece is of average intelligence, grade wise. I think she's smart though. It's hard to scientifically prove intelligence levels.

I think it's great that a multiracial person owns all the white guys in golf!

You have quite obviously never met Spooky, my wonder hound. If his brain were twice as powerful, he could aspire, with careful and intense training, to be an idiot.

But he's my sub-idiot.

He probably has a brain condition. I should have qualified my position by saying that I meant dogs without neurological conditions.

I agree with Cesar Millan.

This guy is a justice of the peace, not a judge. I don't know what laws apply to JOP's, so I can't say either way if he has the legal right to refuse to marry someone. Seems to me that he would, but I'm just guessing.

My point was that Hazlnut is all hyped up about this, but he didn't grow up in Tangipahoa Parish and can't say with full certainty that if he had, that he wouldn't have made the same call. The only reason this story made the news is because, 1) it happened in the South, 2) the JOP is white, 3) one part of the couple is black.

But do you think it is justifiable for the reason the judge cited?

First, re-read my post.

I don't think it's justifiable. However, the, "mean ole' southron white man", line has gotten quite old since we've entered into the, "post racial period", in our country's history.

I have lived in he South and have reletives in the South who have mixed marriages ( white/white with Southeners). The South is indeed a dicotomy on racial interaction and relations in that they obviously had institutionalized racism a whole lot longer than we had in the North. Yet they have had in the South more closer relationships on a personal basis between Blacks and Whites isolated as that may be.

It is true that the vestages of that institutional racism of the South still lives in their society but we are not all pure oursleves up here in the North or the West Coast. We up here have our prejudices against ceertain ethnic groups don't we !!! Prejudice against Italians who the ruling Wasps called WOPS is not all that far off in our history. There are people still alive today who would rather die than have their children marry a Polack. Latin peoples are still referrd to as Spics in many quarters and there is not exactly a great love extended to the Dot Heads who own many of our 7 Elevens.

Let us not forget that in South Boston in the 1960'S Whites burned school buses when forced intergration came about.

I have a neighbor who referes to the Black couple who live across the stream from my place as "that colored girl and her Nig husband".

I re-read it, but I still don't understand why your post was so indignant, especially since you don't think it was justified.

If you don't agree with the JP, why are you so defensive? That doesn't make any sense to me.

I think that the story still would have made the news even if it had happened in the North. Also if one of the couples was not black this wold be either a non story or not much o a story.

I don't think its similar at all....

But if you have been following along....I have said that despite the fact that I think Rush is a big fat hypocrite slob....he should have the same right as anyone to be an NFL owner.

I guess I posted this article because I was interested to see who on the site would actually defend the judge.

Now, apdst, didn't 'defend' him per say... But raised the issue of local customs, traditions--implying this sort of thing is understandable in La. It's a regional thing...

Did you want to elaborate on that, apdst?

We need to get government out of marriage, period. A marriage is a voluntary contract between self-owning individuals - regardless of their ethnicity, health, age, gender, quantity, and so forth.

Why do you have to try and turn it into a libs vs. cons thing? Seriously, it doesn't matter what skin color the justice has, he's a racist asshole and deserves any and all criticism he gets. And yes, I'm well aware that many black people are opposed to interracial marriages. Why would you assume that they would be viewed any better than white people who are?

Ah, so somehow being from Louisiana would make one understand and therefore be able to justify being a bigot?

I have family including my father who is from LA. Yes he can as it is ignorant considering I am a mixed child and got no problem with it. :doh

Anyone who still thinks this way is an idiot and needs to be shot, period.

Why can't you say the second half of your statement without saying the first half?

Is this miscegenation rearing it's ugly head, or is it possible that Justice Bardwell is acting out of what he believes is the best interest of children?

FWIW Trivia - Tangipahoa parish is where Britney Spears is from.
doesn't matter, does it? their future children are none of his damned business.

They should go to Loranger. There's a JoP there that will marry them. I can't remember his name, but he married me and my wife.

Bardwell might know these folks and feels that they shouldn't be married, nor should they pro-create, too. So we might not know the whole story.
does it matter?
