Studies like this prove there is some level of global warming occurring in the world. What isn't proven is if this global warming is due to human interventions or just the natural cycle of the planet.

It will be interesting to see exactly what effect the melting of the polar ice caps has on world wide weather and if those climate changes can in fact be linked back to he melting.
Then, why are they getting thicker?

Fortunately the deniers are a fringe minority and global policy is already slowly going into place to try and minimize impacts on climate.

I do feel that it's already too late though.

The theory is that warmer air carries more moisturizer and thus more snow and rain fall. This leads the colder higher altitudes (the areas measured by satellites) to thicken while the outer sea level areas melt.

Global Warming can cause short term cooling.

The argument gets lamer and lamer all the time.

The temperature of the ocean has a direct affect on the world's climate. If billions of almost freezing water is dumped into the ocean by global warming melting ice floes it will impact parts of the world with cooler climates as a result of the now cooler water being moved by the ocean currents throughout the world.

It's ok. Just ignore science though. It's all just make believe black magic.

Science used to say that the world is flat, too.

What are you going to tell us next? Melting icebergs will cause oceans to rise?

Looking at this plot of the 30 day slopes of actual NASA gridded data, the maximum ice melt rate occurs in 1999 and in 2004 not in 2007. Surprisingly the maximum ice growth rates occur in 2007 and 2008, I donít remember those headlines for some reason. Donít forget when looking at the 2008 Ė 09 peak, the data is preliminary and hasnít been through the same processing as the other data. From looking at the unprocessed data I doubt it will change much.

Certainly the 30 year arctic trend in ice area is downward, even the most committed global warming scientist has to admit this happens regularly in climate along with regular 30 year uptrends. The questions are, did we cause it or not, and was CO2 the instigating factor. The rapid recovery of ice levels has to have some meaning regarding the severity of the problem. This goes directly in the face of accelerated global warming and the doom and gloom scenarios promoted by our politicians and polyscienticians.

Why are my conclusions different from the news reported records? I think itís likely due to the fact that the scientists used the monthly data which is processed using a weighted filter of the daily data that incorporates a longer time frame than a single month. This means their use of the monthly data to establish a monthly trend was in error and the real record down trends were actually set in 1999, 2003 and 1984. While the record uptrends were in 2007, 2008 and 1996.

    Opps..........

    PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT

NOUS45 KMSO 152055 PNSMSO ...MORE RECORDS FROM THE RARE ARCTIC OUTBREAK OCTOBER 8-12, 2009... LAST WEEK, FROM OCT 8-12, 2009, WAS THE ONE OF THE LONGEST AND COLDEST ARCTIC OUTBREAKS FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER. THIS WAS A RARE EVENT FOR A SEVERAL REASONS. FIRST, RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE NUMBER OF DAYS IN A ROW THAT RECORD LOW TEMPERATURES HAD OCCURRED IN KALISPELL AND MISSOULA (OVER 110 YEARS OF RECORDS). SECONDLY, THE RECORD LOWS ON OCTOBER 11-12 IN MISSOULA AND KALISPELL WERE SMASHED BY 14 DEGREES. THIS BREAKS THE RECORD OF GREATEST AMOUNT OF DEGREES BELOW THE OLD RECORD TEMPERATURE, FOR ANYTIME OF YEAR. THE RECORD LOW IN MISSOULA ON OCT 12 WAS SMASHED BY 14 DEGREES. THIS VERY RARE EVENT TIES THE RECORD FOR THE GREATEST AMOUNT THAT A RECORD LOW HAD BEEN BROKEN: OCT 12TH, 2009 NOV 25TH, 1993 DEC 17TH, 1964 THE RECORD LOW IN KALISPELL ON OCT 12TH, 2009 SETS A RECORD FOR THE GREATEST AMOUNT A RECORD HAS BEEN BROKEN. THE RECORD WAS BROKEN BY 14 DEGREES.

You're not seriously asking that question, are you?

In the first half of the 19th Century, doctors believed that infections were caused by a noxious vapor in the air. the point? Sometimes science is full of ****.
