[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4559454"]Sources: Rush Limbaugh to be out of bid for St Louis Rams - ESPN[/ame]

Rush Limbaugh is expected to be dropped from a group bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams, according to three NFL sources.

Dave Checketts, chairman of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and the point man in the Limbaugh group attempting to buy the Rams, realizes he must remove the controversial conservative radio host from his potential role as a minority member in the group in order to get approval from other NFL owners, the sources said.

Three-quarters of the league's 32 owners would have to approve any sale to Limbaugh and his group. Earlier this week, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay predicted that Limbaugh's potential bid would be met by significant opposition. Several players have also voiced their displeasure with Limbaugh's potential ownership position, and NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith, who is black, urged players to speak out against Limbaugh's bid.

Ultimately, the sources said, Checketts must reconfigure his group and find another investor to make his bid more viable.

Exactly when Limbaugh will be dropped is uncertain, though some familiar with the situation said it could be within the next week. It is unclear if the two sides even have spoken.

A Limbaugh spokesman told ESPN that Limbaugh would have no comment on Wedneday. Earlier, on his syndicated radio show, Limbaugh was defiant, holding on to hope that he still could be part of the ownership group that buys the Rams.

"I'm not even thinking of exiting," Limbaugh said on his program, according to a transcript provided to ESPN. "I'm not even thinking of caving. I am not a caver. None of us are. We have been betrayed by too many who have caved. Pioneers take the arrows. We are pioneers. It's a sad thing but our country over 200 years old now needs pioneers all over again, but we do."

Without Limbaugh, Checketts and his group would have to find a financial substitute to replace the investment that Limbaugh intended to make. At the NFL owners meetings this week in Boston, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell addressed Limbaugh's potential involvement in the league and said "divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about."

Couldn't have happened to a bigger racist asshole.

He's one of those people, like Paris Hilton, who has fallen ass-backwards into financial success--both in their own way, capitalizing on the dumbing-down of this country.

And, like Beck and Hilton, I don't understand how do his so-called 'fans' show their faces??

I saw this earlier. Wonder how this will get spun into being all the liberals fault.

Because people were bitching so much that the NFL didn't want to get involved. It's all the same crap. He's a racist, he's this he's that. But that's all the people that don't like him. They misconstrued what he had said, misrepresented his character, to have a real business and financial result against the man. Last I checked, that was illegal. But I guess it's ok if people merely of the opinion of Rush as something, but no proof there of, run their mouths.

I find it a sad state when based on political disposition, a large number of people would smear someone so much as to prevent their ability to engage in business.

What was said about Rush were not smears. It was the truth.

That said...I don't see why he shouldn't have the same right as anyone else to be an owner.

As I've said in another post....he couldn't be any worse than Georgia Frontiere or Al Davis.

No it wasn't. People were trying to make serious racism claims out of comments which weren't rooted in racism. Or at least, not the magnitude that people were trying to make it seem like.

I think people should be allowed to express their political beliefs, but because of where Rush comes from he has garnered enough people of blind hatred enough to espouse things which are legitimately true and which damage reputation and business. The last one being the serious one.

Well, at least you are consistent and predictable. When in doubt, blame the liberals.

wah wah wah, play the victim card some more. Never mind the fact that you've endorsed ruining business plans and financial choices of an individual who has done nothing wrong. You're the victim. Yes yes, let's all play the violin for you.

I didn't single out the liberals, it's all the haters. Blinded by their hatred of Limbaugh, they levied charges I bet dollar to doughnut can't be proven in a court of law to mean everything they've claimed it to mean. They launched a campaign against an individual with a business plan. That's it. Rush said blah about McNabb...well it's true. McNabbs numbers were terrible back then, they're decent enough now; but he's still not a premier QB.

All this was based on ONE thing, Rush's political ideology. That's it. Because of that, people levied charges of racism which were trumped up and caused enough of a hoopla that the group seeking the bid decided that they didn't want to deal with the mess. You think your ilk isn't at fault, ask yourself "if it wasn't for your [aggregated] whining and crying, would he have been dropped from the group?".

So many people who claim "tollerance" and "understanding" are the very same being incredibly intolerant and not understanding at all. It's sad that we're always pandering to the lowest common denominator. It's time to quit rewarding stupidity.

Actually, I think it was just people pissed at things Rush has said. I think that is allowed and acceptable in this country. Considering Rush makes a living saying outrageous things, I don't think he has any room to complain.

Poor Rush...he is so deserving....this is a sad day....Tee Hee...

So much for producing evidence to back claims of racism.

So much for living in a free country where one doesn't have to worry about persecuted for one's beliefs.

So, if we said the KKK is racist, would you say prove it?

Sure, Boss Lameblott is not an overt, in your face, sheet-wearing bigot.

But he's a racist fatass.

Except that what people were claiming he said were hyperbole and spin on what he really said. I don't think people should be barred from private financial dealings [legal of course] based on hyperbole and spin of a group of people opposed to someone because of political leanings.

I don't think anyone can be gleeful for this and honestly believe that people should be free to conduct their business. Most of the glee is spite, and I don't believe spite is legitimate grounds for libel and slander. Not to mention being barred from financial and business deals [again, legal].

It's amazing what people think is perfectly acceptable to say when it's against people they don't like, things they'd never tolerate against anyone else.

Of course, the "fatass" comment, besides denoting a particular lack of creativity on the part of the person saying it, also tends to show people's ignorance of the subject they're discussing -- to wit, Limbaugh hasn't been fat for quite a few years. But that just goes to show how much his critics actually know about him, and how much they simply go by their preferred perceptions without actually confirming whether or not it's actually true.

Limbaugh never killed anyone. What a desperate attempt on your part. Like I said, you have nothing but rhetoric to support your belief. You also have loons like Sheila Jackson Lee who stand on the House floor addressing this issue, which is not what she was elected for. But then no liberal in Congress understand what they are suppose to do there anyway. I don't remember you going into convulsions when Hillary denegrated Jews.

These are the same folks that protect Rangel, Raines and others who've made $millions of ill-gotten gains.

Rush got the degree of respect from the owners of the NFL that he deserved.

The NFL survives of the money from everyday Americans..MOST everyday americans resent the fact that this pig racist makes his money everyday off dividing people with pathetic racist comments. While laughing in our faces.

His credentials speak for it's self. PATHETIC.

Nothing wrong with that either, and that is not what stopped this either. We are talking the NFL, it's not like they have high standards for what is acceptable behavior. The reason that this was stopped is that the NFL owners are worried that the negative publicity would be bad for business. No one is doing anything wrong, and people who don't like Limbaugh are perfectly free and justified in suggesting they will not watch or attend games played by a team he owns.

There is no victim here, just the American system in action. Rush is perfectly free to say whatever he wants, and others are perfectly free to say that based on what he says they will not support anything he supports.

Rush could take his big bucks and start his own team...I hear Joe the Plumber is looking for a job..perhaps headcoach? Sarah is looking for a job too..she could be his head Ra Ra girl.

If the KKK hadn't done anything that could be considered racist, then yes, I think one of us would insist that you prove it.

As it is, yall's definition of racism is anything that isn't kissing a black person's ass.

I think there should be an amendment to the Constitution gauranteeing political freedom, just as there's one gaurunteeing religious freedom. Descriminating against someone for his political beliefs is just as bad as discriminating against someone for his religious beliefs.

It happens to people, everyday. Are you going to discriminate against everyone that gets hooked on prescription drugs?

BTW, you do know that, "speed", usually comes in the form of a pill, right?
