Well, here's some more. These people are either sadists or abysmally stupid. Or both.

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - It was in a house off Shenandoah Drive in Palm Bay, in which investigators say a little girl was punished. According to Palm Bay Police , the mother's boyfriend, Wilfredo Rivera, made her chew on soap for ten minutes, while the child's mother, Adriyanna Herdener, watched.

"I think people need to educate themselves more about using an object or foreign substance in a child's body. Whether it's soap or hot sauce. You just never know how somebody's going to react," said neighbor Christina Chiarilla, who works in child care.

Investigators say the child was crying, vomiting and foaming at the mouth. According to police, the boyfriend wouldn't let the girl rinse out her mouth until she cleaned up her mess.

Reports state the child's lips, throat and tongue became swollen and was in pain. That's when the mom asked her boyfriend to take the 8 year old to the hospital.

The mother's boyfriend did this, and the mother stood by.

See folks this is why you're not supposed to get involved in romantic relationships while you're raising children. The risks of child abuse are greater when you do, and the stresses of the step-parent dynamic is the leading cause of second-marriage divorces.

I wonder where the child's father is.

    Sickos.
Yeah, there's a big difference between "washed their mouth out with soap" and "made them chew on a bar of soap for ten minutes".

One is a lesson, the other is abuse.

Re: Mom Arrested for Washing Kid's Mouth With Soap

Was just going to say that Jall.

I've got no problem with a little old school discipline. I don't have issues with parents that want to give a little swat on the behinds of their young kids, or do the "wash mouth out with soap", or other things that many of us probably experienced at some point in youth.

Its when these things are taken way over the line that its a problem. When the little swat on the behind becomes welts and bruises on a weekly basis. When rubbing soap against the tongue becomes forcing the kid to chew on a bar for 10 minutes.

Its kind of like a single glass of beer, while not particularly healthy for you, has some good effects. If you down 10 of them in an hour, there's going to be problems. However the idiot that downs 10 of them in an hour doesn't prove that you shouldn't have your single glass once in a while.

I think we've gone WAY over board with what we consider "child abuse" now for some people, but at the same time I think that hyper sensitivity has came about because often times the idiots that go to the extremes are propped up as if they're the average, every day, typical way people go about those acts and thus it becomes this huge taboo.

If this was actually just "cleaning their mouth out with soap", taking the bar and making them run their tongue over it once or twice like I remember seeing happen to my sister when she wouldn't stop cursing as a little kid, I'd probably be siding with American. However chewing on it for 10 minutes goes from a strict punishment and lesson to flat out abuse in my book.

I won't make a long post about my thoughts on this. I don't support parents washing their child's mouth out with soap nor spanking them.....ever. Let's teach our children that it's okay for a larger person to hit a smaller person--that hitting/sticking an object in the mouth is a way to solve problems. Yeah, that's what needs to be done.

How do you correlate the diminished use of corporal punishment with the increase in school disciplinary problems over the past 30 years. I know I'll get an emotional answer, like I support beating children.

Do you have a study that indicates school disciplinary problems have increased over the past 30 years?
    Are you coming to bed?
    I can't. This is important.
