I thought we were talking about leaders? As in Presidents? While senators do often get relected quite often Senators often have far more anonymity than does someone that is President. Senators also get elected by a smaller group than does a President.

Roosevelt got 16 years, and might have gotten more if he hadn't died. The 2-term tradition isn't universal.
The Makeout Hobo is real, and does indeed travel around the country in his van and make out with ladies... If you meet the Makeout Hobo, it is customary to greet him with a shot of whiskey and a high five (if you are a dude) or passionate makeouts (if you are a lady).

But isn't the main party the most popular anyways?
It depends on the developement of a country's democratic process. Usually there are either two parties who will battle for the peoples votes and usually the vote is close. At least that is the USA's model. In other democratic countries where there are multiple parties parties tend to adhere to each other in the left and right spectrum. You say "main party" ! SHO TO YE ? WHAT IS THAT ?

That sounds to me like a place where there is no opposition party or parties. Therefore if the "main party" is the only party then there are no checks and balances. If there are no checks and balances how can we guarantee that there truly is democracy. Since the "main party" as in Russia controls the govenment and the govenment controls the media, courts, and the secret police there is no room for democracy.

Have I not just described Russia ?. Yes I did !!
I do not recall the Viet Cong asking me if I was a natural born or Naturalized American before they shot at me, they just shot at all of us f107HyperSabr

So you don't care that honest reporters are murdered on a regular basis in Russia ?

    F107HyperSabr,

What is democracy, and is it of "one size fits all" type?

Russia is in fact a democracy. So are North Korea and Saudi Arabia.

Any government can call itself a "democracy" and claim to rule with the consent of the mob's majority - otherwise it would simply be overthrown.

    Whut.

What does it matter if the entire populace wants that single party. For other parties to be present when they weren't voted in is undemocratic. Youre just contrasting their democracy with our own.
