Obama reaffirms will end "Don't ask Don't tell"

history

today, as you note, there are too many similarities

Don't you agree it is best too NOT go bumbling fumbling forward while ignoring history?

History tells me that declaring "Mission Accomplished" was a major letdown for the US and a major benifit for Al Quaeda and the Taliban.

LOL!

yes, it was a letdown

so are gitmo, halving the deficit, paygo, taxing the middle class, transparency, cap and trade, clunkers, card check, rendition, detention, the patriot act, don't ask don't tell, lobbyists, tax cheats, earmarks, taxing benefits, bailouts, bonuses, afghanistan...

speaking non-historically, that is

but we've already covered this ground

So when he closes Gitmo are you going to be critical of that too?

Where exactly were you during the last adminstration? On the wrong side of America seeing no need to be critical of the Bush adminstrations bumbling decisions what so ever?

Hot air..is what it now appears too be.

Nice Job.....:2wave:

Now all you can say is that things should be done promptly and not properly....LOL

paygo, cutting the deficit in half, not taxing the middle class, card check, ending detention, ending rendtion, reversing the patriot act, cap and trade, prosecuting cheney, not taxing bennies, getting out of iraq, putting legislation online, not hiring lobbyists and tax cheats, transparency, ending earmarks...

these things aren't going to be done promptly or not promptly, properly or not

they're not going to be done at all

I happen to think that if the Republicans insist on ignoring history then their future looks rather bleak. Perhaps by 2016 with some hardfought restoration of dignity and honor, maybe just maybe they will be able to shed the Bush/Cheney blight and people will actually consider what they are saying to be legitimate in reguards to the nations health as a whole.

Ignoring history is not going to help.

Don't ask Don't tell will be done away with for the benifit of our country's honor and it's ability to fight future wars while using all of our valuable rescources.

tell it to the american people

they believed all those pretty promises

America??? Don't fool yourself..The WORLD believes it.

Just as they believe that the Republicans lack crediblity reguarding ANY issue.

Don't you wish you would have had the guts to stand up for the "right things" years ago?

Haven't you noticed Prof? When President Obama speaks the WORLD listens.

When Bush/Cheney or Palin or any other Republican speaks the only people that listened was and is their wacko base. Which shrank rapidly and is still shrinking.

Why ignore reality Prof?

the world believes he's gonna cut the deficit in half, institute paygo, not tax benefits and the middle class, end rendition and detention and the patriot act and earmarks, prosecute cheney, not hire lobbyists and put legislation online?

etc, etc?

who's fooling whom?

No..Nobody but you expects him to do those things in 9 months. Be patient..he will honor many more of his promises than....Oh Bush would have had to have known the definition of dignity and honor as far as his nations interests as a whole were concerned. So there is really no comparison.

Just be patient watch and learn.

In your mind what was the stated timeline to accomplish that?

Do you even remember how long it took the previous adminstration to take a SURPLUS into a record deficit?

Look Prof you telling me to grow up makes yourself appear no less childish.

Four years is an ambitious goal and a postive outlook as far as our nations interests are concerned.

It's refreshing to finally have a president who has such goals reguarding our nations interests as a whole.

White House projects record deficit for 2009 - CNN.com

President Bush inherited a budget surplus of $128 billion when he took office in 2001 but has since posted a budget deficit every year. View a history of the government deficits and surpluses »

The Bush administration has spent heavily on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and faces a large budget shortfall in tax revenue in part because of Bush's tax cuts and a souring economy.

A Democratic point man on the budget, Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota, blasted the administration for its "reckless fiscal policies," blaming the president's tax cuts for driving the government into deficit and saying Bush "will be remembered as the most fiscally irresponsible president in our nation's history." Watch Conrad call the federal debt Bush's legacy »

Conrad, who chairs the Senate's budget committee, accused the president of "squandering" the surplus he inherited from President Bill Clinton and said the increased debt the government has taken on to cover the deficit has undermined the value of the dollar and hurt the overall economy.

"If they gave out Olympic medals for fiscal irresponsibility, President Bush would take the gold, silver and bronze," Conrad said. "With his eight years in office, he will have had the five highest deficits ever recorded. And the highest of those deficits is now projected to come in 2009, as he leaves office."

If we had such record surpluses, then why was a recession beginning when Bush stepped into office. We both know the answer to that, the surplus projections were total bull****, and you know it too. Now let's drop that nonsense once and for all.

You are right..the recession started the instant Bush decided to go on a record long vacation after being warned from several souces of a impending attack on our country.

Then it was exacerbated when he made the decision to divert our nations resources into his war in Iraq. A place and a government that had ZERO to do with the 9-11 attacks and toss billions into the wind. When we should have been spending it in the right places for the right reasons.

He had a 128 billion surplus the day he stepped into office.
