    1) Let's not blame the husband too much on this yet. He could've been acting under extreme emotional stress, protecting himself (but felt guilty afterwards because his children saw the aftermath), or just had a crazy wife. It's at least partially his fault, it seems, but let's not put all the blame on him until after we get the facts.

    2) I can see it now in a small southern town. Person A shoots Person B. Person B's friend shoots Person A. Oh snap, Person A's friend shoots Person B's friend. Whole town is wiped out.

Owning a gun does not make you pro-2nd amendment. Calling people idiots for exercising their constitutional rights and having a problem with the fact she beard her arms openly in a murder suicide thread makes you anti-2nd amendment loon.

"Exercising a right" doesn't prevent you from being an idiot at the same time.

I suppose I could carry my guitar to work, lunch, the movies, parties and other social events in the hopes that some day some record executive type would discover me. I'm well within my rights to do so, and technically it is a possibility, but it would also show that I didn't have a good grasp on reality.

You're still anti-second amendment. You could post all the neat **** that you have too, and I'd still not care.. as far as I'm concerned you're just as bad as the gun grabbers themselves... ****, as far as I'm concerned, you are one.

As this story clearly illustrates, the people you know and trust are often a much bigger threat than strangers. She was prepared for the random intruder, but oblivious to the nutjob she married. Good judgment goes a lot farther in ensuring safety than carrying a weapon.

You would expect something bad to happen from someone who was fascinated with weapons.

Could the same be said about those who are fascinated with Hitler and the second world war? Could they turn into Hitler and start killing jews again.. because they collect memorabilia?

Your ASSUMPTION is absurd, at best.

If you honestly believed that'd happen, why shouldn't you?

I honestly believe that at any time I could be subject to violent crime... Why? Because violent crime happens irregardless of "gun free zones" or location. It makes sense to carry an appropriate tool to protect one's self in theory at all times.

    Does it not?

George Washington didn't use his freedom of speech to win the war with Britain... He shot them.

Well if they happened to wear nazi regalia in public along with maybe some firearms, I could understand why quite a few people would suspect that person would do something unsavory.

People carry guns precisely for the reason that it makes them more dangerous. It's up to everyone else to decide whether or not we trust their judgment to use it appropriately. The more poor judgment they show, the less I trust them.

The question is whether my beliefs would appear to be grounded in reality. I have absolutely no problem with people carrying guitars around for that reason. I would just think they were kind of well...nutty.

If that makes you feel safer, I doubt I can argue you out of it. I suppose you could also wear a crash helmet and full body padding while you walk around the street, because you don't have to be in a car to get run over. You actually might be safer, but I still think it's nutty.

My point is that I don't feel safer around you just because you *say* you're carrying it for protection. Why should I trust you, if you carry a gun in apparently innocuous settings where there doesn't appear to be any immediate threat? You're basically waving a sign saying "not only am I dangerous, but I'm paranoid too!"

    That's the difference.

You see a paranoid "nut" and I see someone exercising their right to bear arms.

Putting guns out of sight and out of mind does nothing to strengthen and defend our rights to keep and bear arms... it only serves to disarm the public... when everyone freaks out about someone legally carrying their firearm.

I'm a CCW holder and carry concealed *EVERYWHERE*... I don't like the idea of open carry because it makes me a target to would be criminals.

To be honest, I don't trust you either.. but until you do something to violate my rights... I cannot nor will I try and take away / question your's... It's called respect and minding my own business.

So you equate bearing arms to idiocy? Wouldn't that be like calling the act(not the topic of the protest) of holding a sign and protesting to idiocy?

I suppose I could carry my guitar to work, lunch, the movies, parties and other social events in the hopes that some day some record executive type would discover me. I guess since people have been so pussyfied so much that the mere sight of a gun frightens them. The mere sight of a guitar would bother no one nor would it shock anyone.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I did NOT call her an idiot because exercised her constitutional right I called her an idiot becasue I did not see any documented logical reason why she needed to display her weapon at a kids socer game. Just becasue we have a right to do something doesn't mean that we have to especially if it is innapropriate.

The diference between your approach to "debate" is that I have not called another poster names but I did not. Yet I believe in adult level debates and other do not.
