Obama's Olympic Failure Highlights Limits of His International Appeal

Most of Obama's presidency has been spent trying to fix the utter failure that was the past administration.

Like Afghanistan...where we've spoken to our field commander....once? Or like Gitmo....that used to bother the Left.

Please.

Most of Obama's presidency has been spent trying to fix the utter failure that was the past administration.

He has both houses... have at it.

The Obamer and his buddies at ACORN and the Clinton Admininstration, are responsible for (a program started by Carter) forcing, under the penalty of law, banks to make loans to people that couldn't pay them back.

That's the reality.
Just check how the Dems dealt with it in Congressional hearings.
It wasn't Bush, but for those lacking the facts... it's an easy card to pull from the bottom of the deck... just like the race card.

.

I cannot believe this.

9 months into Obama's presidency the liberals are still blaming Bush?

Well, it can take time to clean up a cluster**** if it's massive enough. And this one was (torture, anyone?).

Yes, Brazil is so superior, with their famous street children and squalid slums. Hopefully they can get that cleaned up in time to put on a veneer of cheerfulness before the Olympics...

China managed it. So will brazil.

Anyone who thinks Fox news is really 'fair and balanced' is deluding themselves. This article is so blatantly biased, it's laughable

I still appreciate the fact that Fox News exists and they, like the liberal press, have their place. But they need to brush up on their finesse in hiding their obvious slant to the news a little better, for God's sake! :doh

I have to laugh at the selective outrage from the Left. You think this is ONLY a Fox News story?

Gee, when did the Boston Herald become a Fox network?

What we have here is another example of is your epich failure to comprehend what is actually happening in the world and instead of adding to a coherent debate, merely spew Democrat talking points. :doh

I disagree.

At best it highlights is how low the US has sunk on the international stage after 8 years of Bush. Rebuilding that trust and aura of might the US use to have before Bush, is not something that happens over night.

Plus more importantly, there were considerable arguments against Chicago that not even Obama could deflect. The US has had so many Olympics, and the last 2 were fiascos in one way or another. Atlanta was seen by most IOC members as lacking the Olympic spirit and many say it was more like a county fair than an Olympics. And then there was the scandalous Salt Lake City games, something the IOC has not forgotten.

On top of that the restrictive aspect of getting into the US also was a prime factor in not taking Chicago. The US is not exactly "friendly" when it comes to visitors these days. It is often easier to get an appointment with a UHC specialist in Canada than getting into the US. And that is not Obama's fault.. that is Bush's. As the only candidate, the US delegation was asked this by the IOC.. so it was a big factor.

Plus... Rio was in a continent that has never had the Olympics. I can not emphasise the importance of this. Rio had by far the worst infrastructure and crime problems and yet they won alone based on this and the passion behind the bid. If there had been any logic in the matter, then it should have gone to Madrid based on the infrastructure alone and low cost. But the IOC has never been about logic, but all about passion for the Olympics and setting a "mark". Rio met all these points.

Here's an interpretation for those who don't read a lot of the massive BS spewed by PeteEU;

Blah blah blah Bush, blah blah blah Bush's fault blah blah blah Americas demise.

Carry on. :rofl

I'm actually not a Democrat. If you have read any of my posts here you'd realize that I'm not exactly a mouthpiece for the Democratic party line...

The obvious slant in the title is further evidence of FNCs biased and unbalanced reporting of the news.

Please move this thread to Bias in the media. Because that's what it is an example of.

You might want to read the above thread posted; the notion that this was biased reporting on Fox's part requires either willful denial or blatant ignorance; OR, perhaps an unwillingness to do much else than parrot DNC talking points.

But thank you again for illustrating why anyone should even take your nonsense serious.

America had the Olympics in 96 they shouldnt expect to get them back so soon.If it where up to me Chicago could have the 2012 instead of london im not looking forward to have so many of the worlds dullest sports rammed down my throat.Lets see how far someone can throw a stick, lets see how far someone can throw a ball, lets watch someone jump high.

:rofl THAT was funny.

Most of Obama's presidency has been spent trying to fix the utter failure that was the past administration.

What a fascinating argument made in a vacuum of facts or reality; meanwhile, GDP continues to descend, unemployment soars, the deficit continues to soar, foreclosures on the rise again and we are paying $500 million per day on the debt which is also climbing.

What is Obama's solution? SPEND MORE nationalizing the US healthcare system.

Folks, you cannot get much dumber than Obama and the morons who infest the congress with their blatant feel-good emotional socialism which has done NOTHING to make this nation better and has done everything to make future generations unwilling wards of the state.

I am fascinated by the efforts of Liberals to claim that all this is Bush's fault when the lies, the distortions and the hyperbolic rhetoric oozing from this Congress and this administration is so obvious. But then, I never did accuse liberals of honesty or lacking in their willing suspension of disbelief.

The IOC considers a bunch of things when selecting a city... like which city has the best ideas for facilities, which city can pull off the games the best, and most importantly, which country has never had them before.

To my knowledge, Brazil has never had the Olympics before, and it has the money to host the games. It makes more sense to give it to them than Chicago.

I am total agreement with you; Rio has been trying to get the games for a very long time; it is their turn.

I don't see the huge issue here. The President of the United States was trying to get the Olympics to be held in the United States. Every other leader was trying to do the same for their country.

I guess the downside I see is that Obama could be seen as being selfish by trying to hog the Olympics instead of letting other countries have a turn. But then again how would the IOC know which country to choose if those countries didn't show their passion and want for the games to be held in their country?

How many Presidents/Nations leaders go to Copenhagen to get the Olympics in one of their cities?

How many were present at this meeting? Let's do a count?

Frankly, when our country is in the mess it is in and running massive amounts of debt, deficits and pointless spending with rising unemployment and foreclosures and the issues confronting us in Afghanistan, I just think that spending a vast sum of tax payer money to market Chicago for your cronies who were hoping to profit from the games was a waste of tax payer money.

I would think he had better things to do. Not to mention the gross unadulterated typical arrogance Michelle and Obama constantly display by always talking about themselves.

Whoa, harsh man.

I happen to read Fox News, that's why I posted this article, because I saw the article. Did ya even read my opening post? :doh

I read Fox news specifically to get the conservative slant on the news. I also read some other news sources to get other angles...

Sure thing. There were 4 bidding cities, Tokyo, Chicago, Rio, and Madrid.

Tokyo Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama was there.
Spanish King Juan Carlos was there.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was there.
President Obama was there.

Economically it makes sense if winning the bid could bring billions of dollars of revenue to the country. Would you support Obama savings a few tens of thousands of dollars to possibly forfeit billions of potential revenue?

Apparently, Bush is a much more towering figure for some people.
I guess Obama just doesn't have the gravitas to overcome Bush in any area. He lacks the persona, the charisma, and toughness needed to make Bush disappear from the world stage.

He is an EPIC FAIL.

I will call a spade a spade, no matter which side is the guilty party. Fox News claims to be 'fair and balanced'. They are, in fact, slanted, just like the other networks. They have carved out a market niche for themselves of people who want an alternative to the standard liberal Obama cheerleading squad.

My suggestion is that they do this with more skill than the obvious bias in the article I presented.

You mean Bush's failures disappear from the world stage. As anyone knows it's much easier to lose someone's trust then it is to gain it and much more difficult to gain it back after losing it.

You need a solid plan to catapult the US back to the international political level we once held. Obama, sadly, doesn't have this plan.

Wrong, we have the Messiah of Liberalism in power now. He will deliver us, but his current attempts have failed. Countries around the world hailed his election. That should automatically have catapulted us into a fresh start.

No, this is a common misunderstanding with both Obamaphiles and people that call him 'Messiah'. His election shows progress is being made to move back to a position of authority and respect. Obama's election doesn't wipe the slate clean in any fashion. Only his actions can do that. Though, to his discredit, he hasn't performed any actions so far.

How nice for them. And if Brazil evaporated overnight, how much impact would that have on the rest of the world? Answer: very little.

Really? Considering Brazil is the largest economy in South America this seems hard to believe.

Oh I see so how much longer before we can stop blaming Bush? Let me guess, in 8 years if a Republican is elected we can blame him, otherwise it remains Bush.
