BBC NEWS | Europe | Warsaw ghetto uprising head dies

The last surviving leader of the 1943 Warsaw ghetto uprising against the Nazis, Marek Edelman, has died at the age of 90.

His friend, Paula Sawicka, told the Associated Press that he died "at home, among friends".

Former Polish Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Bartoszewski paid tribute to him.

"He reached a good age. He left as a contented man even if he was always aware of the tragedy he went through," he told the Gazeta Wyborcza paper.

"I don't want to say he was irreplaceable, nobody is, but there are few people like Marek Edelman."

I'm glad Edelman was able to reach the age. Of course my libertarian sentiments cause me to have an appreciation for violent resistance to authoritarianism in all its forms, but he and they stood out, of course. :)

Thanks for your post agers, my dad was a polish jew and atheist, he would have appreciated all your comments, Edelman and others( two uncles who were hung with wire) he held in great regard.

My Dad mellowed with age and parenthood and forgave the British for their lack of support for those brave people in Warsaw.

Wasn't the Leon Uris novel Mila -18 about the Warszwa Ghetto Uprising ?
Read it back in high school I think - momentary case of CRS !!
