Have you read the comments. They are happy that America failed.
America failed?

America failed?
America failed?
If the USA basketball team loses in the Gold Medal round would you call that a loss for America or would you call it a loss for the 10 guys on the team?
America won, we will not ask those in Chicago to pay more taxes to line the pockets of the chicago machine!
America won, because we all end up paying those bills.
Funny....LA, SLC and Atlanta all did quite well financially from the games.
Oh...those pesky little facts.
And none of those are chicago............
What makes you think that Chicago would not be as successful?
Why do you think most every major city would LOVE to have the games?
Its just typical of the "I hate Obama" crowd. They want desperate to try to spin this as an Obama failure.
Sad that their hatred is so strong that they are happy that America didn't get the bid...as long as they can somehow try to tarnish Obama.
I've said it for a long time, they don't care if America fails...as long as Obama does.
Where exactly did I express any joy or "I hate Obama" tones in that post?
I thought it was interesting that London put such a political spin on it, but never stated that I agree with their headline. I personally believe that the most deserving city won, and politics played little or no factor in their decision.
As for the CNN clip, I thought that was funny as hell. That anchor couldn't keep bias in check. Rio was the odds on favorite, as I'm sure he was aware of, yet he reacted in such utter disbelief. You could just hear it in his voice... He couldn't believe that after Obama had graced the Olympic Committee with his presence, that they didn't bow to his desires. You could just hear the "How dare they" in his voice.

You base that on..?Athens lost money, and currently any city which takes the Olympics will end up losing money on the deal now.

Unions....corruption......should I go on?
Romney actually had to come in and save the games in SLC, would you like to discuss that?

Not true. The Olympics generally make money in The United States. They are a bigger financial risk for some cities. Athens had to build a ton of facilities and infrastructure.
The Olympics in the past have generated money for the host city. But costs rise, interest wanes and profits turn into losses.

The Atlanta Olympics followed the model established by the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The cost to stage the Games was US$1.8 billion. Governmental funds were used for security, but not for the actual Games themselves.[1] To pay for the games, Atlanta relied on commercial sponsorship and ticket sales, resulting in a profit of $10 million.[2] It must also be stated that up to 500 million dollars of tax payer money was used on the physical infrastructure including streetscaping, road improvements, centennial park, expansion of airport, improvement in public transportation, and redevelopment of public housing projects.
Is this really true? I'm genuinely curious, because I thought that the Olympics occasionally failed to make much money once you include government spending.

Look at the history of the games. They always do better financially for North America than they do in other parts of the world.
For one, the main revenue source, TV contracts ALWAYS are larger when the games are in the North American Time Zone, especially when they are in the US.
Chicago was looking at guaranteeing against losses with taxpayer money. While there is plenty of money to be made, the massive amount of infrastructure and security etc will now cost more than one will most likely bring it.
Reality would like to disagree with you.On the fact that building everything necessary for the Olympics, security, transportation, etc. will take more money than that which a city can draw in during the Olympics.
