Fidel Honoured

I have given you an opportunity and invite to logically construct an opinion on the Soviet Union and challenge me with it. If you ever get round to it let me know.

Impressive, you have turned the tables on me. Ok how about you actually answer my question that has been put on hold for such a long time.

A quick question for you JOE. If cuba is such a great place to live then why do thousands of cubans risk there lives and thier kids lives every year by floating on rafts just on the chance that they might get to stay here in the US. Seems if it were realy as great as you say it was people would be leaving Florida on rafts to get to cuba dont you think?

Good on you, run away like a capitalist coward.

I apologize for having to attend to a life outside of this board.

Castro is no autocrat, the fact you sat he is is an illustration that either you know nothing about Marxist-Leninism, nothing about Castro, nothing about the Communist party of Cuba and nothing about the Cuban constitution. Keep living in denial, where false consciousness is king, but come the victory of the PRC and the Proletariat, the class traitors will be the first to perish. Fate will catch up with you.

How is no elections, locking up dissenters, reeducating gays remotely in the interests of the people or not autocratic. It's funny that you mention China and Cuba as "victories for the Proletariat" with their abysmal human rights record.

They just want to spread the word of the socialist paradise to America. Trust me, there are tons of people leaving the US in droves.

The Soviet Union, where we make tanks, but we make no food. Excellent system to glory of worker!

Well, I think that a couple tens of millions of people getting killed, a complete inability to pay for their state run economy, repression almost unparrelled in human histroy, and long queue lines are pretty good reasons why the USSR sucked

A state-run economy can not only never meet the needs of the people, but it also has to repress the people if they want to keep control since the people cannot get what they want under such a system.

Market power will inevitably be so extensive in a capitalist economy that the orthodox firm will be afflicted by dispersed knowledge problems that a consistent Hayekian would object to.

Then they'd fail or have to downsize barring government favoritism. Even large firms don't have to have even a tiny fraction of the information that a govenrment has have to successfully plan an economy.

False consciousness.

I don't say it is great, but it is relatively great it would seem and serves as an example that so much can be achieved with so little.

communist apologists---LOL!

We could have the same if not better, if the republicians would step aside.
Instead of hearing and reading the usual sick and hateful drivel, it would be refreshing to read the truth.
The Repubs have no power to stop anything.

Why don't the Demos just do it? If they patterned it on the Cuba model I'm sure the good citizens of the USA would love it. ;)

So much achieved with so little?

"In the 1950s, Cuba's economic development was on the top of Latin America and advanced even by European standards." - Wikipedia.

So what happened?

Congratulations Fidel on another award to keep with that greatest of honour; The Order of Lenin.

granma.cu - Fidel awarded the Order of the Zambian Eagle

I personally think he shames the socialist movement, with his sanctions against gay people, and those with dissentin opinions on the correct course Cuba should be taking politically. His behaviour is terrible, and I don't feel it's right to excuse it just because he claims to follow the same basic philosophy as I do.

It's still the envy of Latin America. That is the reason you cannot get elected in Latin America without declaring friendship with Fidel Castro and indignation with the US.

Cuba is the wasteland of Latin America, poverty is endemic, civil liberties are nil, and Castro has turned women into whores and men into slaves.

There is no excusing being done on my part. I am socialist, more because of Fidel, than in spite of him. I see him as the most inspirational man of our lifetime. As for the gay thing, he has long admitted the revolutions mistakes on that front. Even though the revuliotianaries were trying to create new consequences, that shaped new men and women, they themselves were still products of the old system, and machismo remained. But this was the way 40 years ago, no country particularly had a good record.

Why are you lying? Cuba did not have higher life expectancy than in Washington DC. You have lied and everyone can see it. And as you have so blatantly lied, no man of good conscience will believe another word you say.

A) Costa Rica has a higher life expectancy than Cuba.

B) Puerto Rico has a higher life expectancy than Cuba.

C) The U.S. has a higher life expectancy than Cuba.

D) Before the revolution they had a very high life expectancy and after the revolution life expectancy has increased slower in Cuba than the rest of Latin America.

Neither exists. And Castro is not the state, the communisty party is the authority in Cuba, and Castro is not the party, merely the figurehead, visionary and father, who, thus, must be respected.

Lol Castro has always been head of the party. Castro has always been the President of the Council of Ministers AND the President of the Council of State though like an absolute monarchy due to Castro's declining health the President of the Council of Ministers has been transferred through heredity to his brother.

I've provided you with proof, if you don't believe it, do some research. With such apparent laziness it is no wonder you hate the state of the workers so much.

You haven't provided anything that could even remotely be called proof. Provide a peer reviewed paper for even a single one of these supposed medical breakthroughs.

You keep saying that, but we have nothing but your word,

http://lanic.utexas.edu/la/ca/cuba/asce/cuba8/30smith.pdf

and regardless, Cuba still performs on par with the 1st world,

Ha no it's not, Cuba is squarely at third world status.

the region doesn't.

Pre-revolution Cuba was on par with the 1st world, now it is part of the third world while much of the rest of Latin America has far surpassed it.

Cuba is the envy of Latin America. Which is the very reason we have such great men in ower in the region, such as Chavez, Morales and Correa, because the people want to be more like Cuba.

Ya Cuba is such a paradise people risk their lives everyday to escape it.

Fantastic, you know what country you are talking about now :) Cuba outperforms the vast majority of similar states on that index

Only because the Cuban state does not allow outside observers to review their statistical methodology because there statistics are bull****. By looking at their per-capita gdp alone we can see that Cuba is far below the average of Latin American countries.

It's been a while since I've said something fierce and iconoclastic on this thread... Let's see...

I'LL GIVE PREFERENCE AND EVEN PAY A $2 A GALLON MORE TO ANY GAS COMPANY THAT HAS HUGO CHAVEZ'S SEVERED HEAD DISPLAYED IN THEIR CORPORATE HQ LOBBY.

There, my ego has been fed for today.

And all communist countries lie their pants off about their infant mortality, and thus life expectancy. It's probably decades lower than UN reports!

The same also applies to literacy rates, GDP, and all other economic indicators.
