Guns allowed in Arizona bars starting Wednesday
By AMANDA LEE MYERS (AP) – 15 hours ago

PHOENIX — Bartender Randy Shields was serving British brews and Arizona ambers as usual at Shady's bar in east Phoenix when he saw a customer walk in with a hunting knife strapped to his hip.

A disturbing image flashed through his mind — "that knife sliding between my ribs."

The customer willingly turned over the knife while he was in the bar, but Shields still worries about a new Arizona law that goes into effect Wednesday that will allow guns into Arizona bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

Under the law, backed by the National Rifle Association, the 138,350 people with concealed-weapons permits in Arizona will be allowed to bring their guns into bars and restaurants that haven't posted signs banning them.

Those carrying the weapons aren't allowed to drink alcohol.

This is a great day for Liberty in Arizona! Let's hope the rest of the nation wisest up to the great ideal of Liberty!

lol.....and how exactly will the bartender be able to determine a person is carrying?

this is such a stupid idea.

Why will the bartender need to?

Why is it stupid? Anything to back up your emotional response?
you're right, it was a knee jerk response. how will a bartender be able to determine who is carrying? alcohol and guns surely don't mix. is that a more studied response?

Wow ... what a spectacularly bad idea.

No it's not.

The patron can't drink. that's the law. A person who went through the proccess of obtaining a CCW, would be hard pressed to risk it for a natty light.

So does every patron now need to be searched to determine if they are carrying? And what is the liability on the bar if they do serve knowingly or not someone that is carrying a concealed weapon?

certain patrons will drink, there's no doubt. most people go to bars to drink, don't they? what is the point of being allowed to have a gun in that environment?

i just received an e-mail with this title:

Liberty Alert: Administration wants to take your guns!contained in the e-mail were these words:

There are three bills currently in Congress getting little attention that would restrict gun ownership in America. These bills, backed by the most anti-gun administration in U.S. history, would be a devastating blow to Second Amendment rights. Read this article to learn more about these bills and those who would enforce them.

i do not understand the big deal here. i'm not anti gun, just sensible about regulations.

What are "Sensible gun Regulations"?

Knowingly? yes, Unknowingly, no.

I doubt a victims family would care. Just like bars are responsible for not serving minors IDing people I'm fairly confident the gavel would fall on the bar for not serving people carrying a weapon.

Nope..... .....

Actually though that would give law enforcement the right to search people they think that are concealed carrying and drunk.

In the long run I think people are going to lose other freedoms over this.

Probable cause is still required. Though one can always be "Terry frisked" drunk or not.
