I was under the impression that if there are no charges filed in rape cases or if the victim drops the charges, then there is no case. My bad.

No problem - as a matter of practice, this is often true. However, that's because it's usually very difficult to prosecute without the testimony that the woman is willing to offer.

The government has the authority to prosecute any offense, regardless of what the victim wants.

Yeah, I've never liked him either. I'm glad my country has detained him, but I don't think we should extradite him. My guess is we'll probably deport him back to France. But you never know, our government has been doing strange things lately. We'll see what happens. Right now they're looking into whether or not they have enough grounds to extradite him to the US.

Actually the Treaty at the time didn't cover what Scum bag did fleeing the United States, it does now.

No they arrest him on both an USA Fugitive warrent and a conter Interpol Warrent that was filed by the USA with Interpol. he will be sent back tot he USA, your Country has already said it will take about a month or so to get all the legal crap out of the way.

The Scum will finally face justic to bad he can't be locked up with Charle now that would be justice. Maybe they could off each other and save the tax's Payers of Calf. some money.

Our press is reporting no such thing. But then they're notoriously slow and cautious in their reporting, so, like I said, we'll see what happens.

All US News Outlets are reporting that the Swiss Govn. said it would take about a month or so for him to be sent back.

That's not possible, given that we're still waiting for your government to officially file the extradition request and that, apparently, hasn't happened yet. You've got about 40 days to do so. Once the request is filed, our justice ministry will make a decision one way or the other. Keep in mind that France and Poland will be petitioning our government for his release too. This is far from being a done deal.

Quick update: The Tribune de Genève is reporting that France and Poland will petition the US government directly for Polanski's release. They will ask Hillary Clinton to request a pardon from Obama himself.
