This can happen with or without globalization.

Do I take it you are ok with a company moving plants across state lines and firing hundreds or thousands of people in the process but some how it's wrong to do the same thing across country lines?
I am a Nationalist, and see all states as American. If a Company moves to another state thats fine by me. Moving to another country is taking away tax dollars, jobs, etc from our nation that I cannot endorse.

Where is the outcry for destroying the use of automation? Automating current process to be more efficient thus requiring less workers to do the same job? That's ok? Can I replace all my workers with machines as long as those machines are in the US?
Automation didnt close those factories in Pittsburg, since production fell not only the number of factories and employees. Also automation doesnt affect small business who are caught between "free" Trade abroad and over regulation at home. We have to compete on uneven terms, which makes it an unfair market.

Yes let's close our borders and seclude ourselves form the world business wise and let the world grow up and more powerful around us. Great idea, let me know how that goes.
I never said close trade, I am simply stating that we shoudl de

I didn't even think about that...it is a particularly ****ed up place to hold a globalization meeting.

Still, having the actual meeting there can't hurt the city's economy.

Pittsburgh is on the verge of loosing its airport, and it's already lost almost all rail connection (only once a day on amtrak). No megabus or boltbus connection and greyhound charges 50-60 bucks. Getting to Pittsburgh is actually really hard if you don't have a car.
And why does your tone suggest that you do not care about children?

The correct answer: foreign goods more so than domestic goods. If i win the lottery tomorrow, i will most likely purchase an Italian sports car, French wine, German kitchen appliances, Japanese cutlery, etc....

This type of consumer behavior is characteristic in other nations as well. They truly prefer American movies in Paris, American processors basically everywhere, and formerly American financial products in Beijing. Due to protectionist policies, it is cheaper for me to purchase a French riveting equipment in Germany, but there are many companies in Germany who prefer Fastenal products over Bosch and Still. IMHO, Fastenal is both the most expensive and of the highest quality you can find.
Let us also NOT forget that many quality European automobile manufacturers also choose to produce their products in the USA based on the high quality skilled labor which is still cheaper than their own nations; they just choose to not locate in Detroit or Northeast where Unions reign and instead produce as good a product in the SE paying an equivalent wage to Unions.

This is news to me. If it is true, I was not aware Pittsburgh was turning into another Detroit.
