I don't know, I really don't. I suppose they could. But, hypothesizing that this guy was murdered b/c of his job is a perfectly reasonable reading of the available information. I haven't seen any articles with any information about drug dealers / cookers in the area of where his body was found.

People do not always realize that the census takes privacy issues very seriously. Census workers are instructed not to share any information about anyone they speak to while performing their job - even if a member of another branch of government makes inquiries. If you see a drug lab or a marijuana patch, you keep that info to yourself.

I'm guessing you thought it was an adversarial comment. It wasn't. It was meant to add to the information base some might not know about the Census Bureau and it's policies. So, it was a comment meant for any reader, not just you.

Does the average Joe know that a census worker is forbidden to share info w police, F.B.I., their spouse etc???

Based on their analysis of preliminary data, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) reported on Dec. 29 they found that 140 officers have died in the line of duty this year, a 23 percent reduction from the 2007 figure of 181. Other than 1996, when 139 officers were killed, 2008 represents the lowest year for officer fatalities since 1965, when 136 officers died in the line of duty.

This year's reduction includes a steep, 40 percent drop in the number of officers who were shot and killed, from 68 in 2007 to 41 in 2008. The last time firearms-related fatalities were this low was 1956, when there were 35 such deaths. The 2008 figure is 74 percent lower than the total for 1973, when a near-record high 156 law enforcement officers were shot and killed.

Don't know. But my point was, it's not hard to imagine they thought he was DEA or FBI and the "Census worker" thing was a cover.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this guy didn't write fed on his own chest. I'm interested to see how it comes out. There are a number of possibilities, not least of which would be some kind of personal conflict with an individual who then used this slant to try and conceal the crime.

However, I also believe it's possible that this was politically motivated.

Do you think it means anything that a couple weeks have passed and there's no more info or leads in the news? I hope they do find out what happened. This is a disturbing crime.

I have a strong feeling that neither side wants this to be an issue what so ever. Nobody wants something like this to take take the air out of the Health Care debate or any other issue. You have to admit that giving all of the caustic rehetoric that has been flung around. This could be a volatile situation.

And if they're really after attention, how do they figure Americans will make the link between the murder and their movement? I just doesn't make any sense.

The guy probably stumbled upon some drug producers who didn't want him exposing or compromising their operation. Rabid anti-government sentiment in certain parts of Appalachia has predated the existence of any tea-parties or conservative marches on Washington. Occam’s razor points to this.

Geezz...THE GUY was neither worthless nor a pissant. You asked me earlier about what is hyperpartisain about your posts...well that is a perfect example. The word FED was written on his chest and he was killed on 9-11 and found on 9-12. The chances are just as likely that he was murdered by a right wing political hit squad.
