Was this not an attack on a federal worker? They knew enough to write fed on his body and they sent a loud message by lynching him vs shooting him or stabbing him and trying to hide the body in the woods as most druggies would do.

In an isolated area known for growing illegal drugs, it isn't uncommon to target or kill law enforcement to send a message.

I lived in N. California in the Emerald triange for over twenty years where Both Meth and Weed is produced in record amounts. Guess how many of these types of political motivated lynchings occured during that time....ZERO.

Perhaps you can post some links to other lynchings in this country, of law enforement, to send a political message

Do you ever have anything intelligent to say?

Just asking…. Seems the only thing you ever do is try to paint any body not a liberal as a criminal kook.

You're the only one saying this was a politically-motivated lynching.

And yet, there you go assuming that this act is "politically" motivated. There are many possible reasons for this crime. Rather than becoming hysterical, I would advise that we wait for more facts. Drugs are just one possible option, and not an unlikely one given where this occurred. Here's a good response to that:

Before we assume that this apparent homicide was a response solely to the attacks Michelle Bachmann and others have made on the census, it's worth recalling how Clay County made news earlier this year, when a bunch of local officials were indicted for vote fraud.

The United States Attorney's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation jointly announced today that five Manchester, Ky. officials, including the circuit court judge, the county clerk, and election officers were arrested pursuant to a federal indictment that accused them of using corrupt tactics to obtain political power and personal gain.

The 10-count indictment, unsealed today, accused the defendants of a conspiracy from March 2002 until November 2006 that violated the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). RICO is a federal statute that prosecutors use to combat organized crime. The defendants were also indicted for extortion, mail fraud, obstruction of justice, conspiracy to injure voters' rights and conspiracy to commit voter fraud.

According to the indictment, these alleged criminal actions affected the outcome of federal, local, and state primary and general elections in 2002, 2004, and 2006. The indictment accused the defendants of the following criminal actions.

Those indicted include a Circuit Court Judge, the school superintendent, the County Clerk, and an election officer (as well as other locals). That trial is currently set for early next year, though they're in the middle of discovery right now, with the defendants trying to get the grand jury testimony.

In other words, in Clay County, the federal government is in the middle of prosecuting a number of top county officials for completely corrupting the voting system.

From a local story about this murder:

"I told him on more than one occasion, based on my years in the state police, 'Mr. Sparkman, when you go into those counties, be careful because people are going to perceive you different than they do elsewhere,'" Acciardo said.

"Even though he was with the Census Bureau, sometimes people can view someone with any government agency as 'the government.' I just was afraid that he might meet the wrong character along the way up there," Acciardo said.

My people are from south Missouri (the Ozarks to be exact). It's vastly different from Northern California (snicker) for a variety of reasons, many dating back to the Civil War. You simply have no idea how people in the Ozarks and the Appalachians think.

Maybe this was anti-government sentiment of the type you think it was. On the other hand, these areas have been anti-federal government for a hundred and fifty years years. This incident, more likely than not, transcends the current Republican/Democratic fracture. In fact, in the hill country, the Republicans were very unpopular during moonshining days and that hasn't changed much.
