Germany Will Walk Out of U.N. if Ahmadinejad Denies Holocaust

Iran's state media is controlled. They will never see the walkout unless they can access Youtube or some other independent source. I think youtube may be blocked there, actually, along with Facebook.

Which is exactly my point. Ahmadinejad probably understands if he avoids the denial crapola today he will have video to air at home. Video of him speaking before a respectful audience a day after he spewed a bunch of nonsense. He doesn't deserve that video.

Was talking more about all elections in Europe.. not only the EU ones :) And it was not I who brought up the EU aspect. And remember where I am from Laila.. we wrote the freaking book on rejecting the EU and it aint something I am proud off. A no means a no, regardless of what side you are on. But again, we know how to count votes over here.. :2wave: even in close elections...

Can you just make an anti-American thread and quit derailing this one? It's obvious your bias, we get it. Now just shove a sock in that pie hole of yours and get over it.

Because democracy is all about counting votes. ;)

I don't know if we should really add to the resentment though. Picking a fight now may not be good. I think overall Iran has the best chance of adopting a western style democratic Republic. The people there are open to it, the problem is their theocracy is against it. I'm not sure if picking a fight will help in that regard, however. We all know the guy is a loon. Let him talk, note that he's a loon, and get on with the day I say.

That's awful funny...seems to me that the Ukraine had a serious election dispute during the Bush administration.

Great.
Another No will hopefully be coming up in a few weeks time and we'll see how EU reacts.

Yea classy, bring up the old iron curtain countries in one of their first free elections ever vs a country who has had free elections for 250 years... yup totally comparable.. But why keep this going since it is so way off topic.....

Aw, heck, if every delegate walked out at the beginning of his speech (or didn't bother to show up), leaving the madman speaking to an empty chamber, he'd just use the videos of him speaking to the empty chamber to show the Iranian people how "disrespectful" the US was. After all, it happened here, so it's our fault, right?

Add to the resentment? Pick a fight? Seriously? I personally am uncomfortable with world leaders sitting silent, holding their collective tongues, while some raving lunatic makes appalling statements about Jews. I don't really consider it a "no biggie" we should just overlook.

The video that will be aired at home will be the video after all of the dissenters have left the room, while the remainder are applauding. I'm not saying that the Iranian people are not smart, but modern media is expert at twisting the facts.

I agree with Ikari in that Iran is still a viable ally once its current leadership passes through, which it inevitably will. The revolts and slaughters following the elections are proof of that. Their leader is running his mouth and shaming his own people. They won't stand for it forever. The next elections there should be interesting.

I'm not saying that it's "no biggie" but rather there isn't anything we can rightfully do to stop him. People do dumb things all the time, look at Pete's comments in this thread alone. I think you can end up doing more harm than good by a huge walkout and that because of that we should think through our actions and consequences to make sure we're not jumping into the fire sort of speak.

Why interesting?
A President can only serve two terms in Iran. No more Ahmadinejad after this term

I guess what it boils down to for me is that when people walk out, they are giving him exactly what he wants. The kind of crap he goes on about is just par for the course in his daily political life. It's not going to stop. Are we going to flee the room every time he opens his mouth?

It's different if it's you or I, but our diplomatic representatives running out of the room looks bad to me. It makes it appear like they have no grit to withstand stupidity. I understand Germany's sensitivity, but even it has taken things too far. You can't even say the word "nazi" there in a school unless you are prepared to justify your usage.

Like Ikari said... there is plenty of documentation. People from the holocaust are still living and giving their testimony. What this guy has to say shouldn't bother us so much. We're too damned PC and reactionary... now even to the point of our very diplomats boycotting speeches. It's just bizarre.

I know, which is why it will be interesting. I am curious to see if he will try to get the law abolished, Chavez style, before then... or if his doppelganger will be put forward. :)

We never had one.. so how could we lose it? And at least we can count our votes....
You folks can't even get your **** together long enough to agree on a constitution. Pull the plank out of your own eye before pointing out the speck in ours.

Of course its off topic when Petey is being proven to live in a glass house.

That would be an interesting conversation to witness.

Ahmadinejad - "The holocaust is fake Germany never killed Jews".
Germany - "Yes we did and there was a whole war around it"
Ahmadinejad - "No you didn't. Trust me I should know better then you, the country that actually performed holocaust. It was just made up by the western devil".
Germany -

haha Gib, that so made me think of Family Guy

German Tour Guide: You vill find more on Germany's contributions to ze arts in ze pamphlets ve have provided.
Brian : Yeah, about your pamphlet... uh, I'm not seeing anything about German history between 1939 and 1945. There's just a big gap.
Tour guide: Everyone vas on vacation. On your left is Munich's first city hall, erected in 15...
Brian : Wait, what are you talking about? Germany invaded Poland in 1939 and...
Tour Guide: We were invited. Punch vas served. Check vit Poland.
Brian : You can't just ignore those years. Thomas Mann fled to America because of Nazism's stranglehold on Germany.
Tour guide: Nope, nope. He left to manage a Dairy Queen.
Brian : A Dairy Queen? That's preposterous.
Tour guide: I vill hear no more insinuations about the German people. Nothing bad happened. Sie werden sich hinsetzen. Sie werden ruhig sein. Sie werden nicht beleidigen Deutschland. You will sit down. You will shut up. You will not insult Germany. (Throws his hand up in a Hitler salute.)
Brian : Uh, is that a beer hall?
Tour guide: (Snapping out of it) Oh yes, Munich is renowned for its historic beer halls.

I don't see why Germany should still be held accountable and get the blame for the Holocaust.
Even if Germany did not walk out, it shouldn't make a difference imo

I do not see the point of walking out, it gives the man more headlines and attention than he deserves

Are you joking that you "don't see why Germany should still be held accountable and get the blame for the Holocaust" ? As a child of parents who survived German forced labor camps I found your question rather strange. After I parsed it I noticed that you used the word "still " as in "still be held accountable ". So are you saying that there is a statute of limitations on genocide by a nation against other nations ? Or are you suggesting that since Hitler is dead all should be forgiven and forgotten since we all know that Hitler planned and executed the entire Holocasut by himself ?

I would think that Germany's delegation walking out would indicate that Germany itself is owning up to it. I think some of this stuff is a bit misplaced.

Hilarious. Is there any topic Family Guy can't be quoted for? :2wave:

Germany Will Walk Out of U.N. if Ahmadinejad Denies Holocaust - International News | News of the World | Middle East News | Europe News - FOXNews.com

Germany's foreign ministry is sending a clear message to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ahead of his Wednesday speech to the United Nations — don't deny the Holocaust.

If the rogue Iranian leaders does in fact make such a statement before the General Assembly, German diplomats will walk out. And Germany wants other European Union countries to follow, the foreign ministry was quoted by Reuters.

Question why and the Hell is the United States of America ewven going to let him into the Country. The Stated Department needs to tell him and Mr.Chavez that they are not welcome in the Uniteds States and if the UN has a problem with that then the UN needs to deal with the fact that both of these idiots need to go. No where is it in the United States Consitution required that we must let any World Leader into the USA. Also before someone point's out it states in the UN Charter great but WE The People of the United States of America never got to vote on said treaty and till that happens the UN can suck a big fat one.

I disagree with you on this Scorpion, I think the world needs to see and hear this kind of stupidity as a constant reminder of why we are in Iraq and Afghanistan.

All of Life's Answers are either given or mocked through the holy triad of South Park, Family Guy, Futurama...all of which were given birth by the forefather The (early seasons) Simpsons

Ahmadinejad does not deserve an audience. He has lost his right to be taken seriously. Not only would I applaud them walking out on his speech but I'd respect folks just not showing up to hear him in the first place. He's a joke of a leader with zero credibility. Why even bother feigning interest in what he has to say at all? Why even attempt to put on a show of legitimacy for appearances sake? Why does it even matter if he says it today, when he has said it pointedly and clearly yesterday and obviously gets off on the emotional anger it creates? Walking out on him would be cool. Not showing up or sticking around to even hear him utter one word would be even better.

I think we need to see these despicable despots and hear them whenever possible as a constant reminder of what we are up against. Pretending they don't exist or ignoring them won’t accomplish much more than making one feel good about oneself while not confronting these morons head on.

I think we need to allow the WORLD to see the rhetoric of leaders of these, correctly described by Bush, axis of evil. IF he makes such remarks, they can properly renounce such rhetoric for what it is in the public arena.
