ATLANTA – The death toll in Southeast flooding has reached eight after rescuers found the body of a 15-year-old boy in northwest Georgia following days of heavy rain that turned docile creeks into surging rivers.
The teen's body was found in the Chattooga River on Tuesday morning.
The Georgia Emergency Management Agency also reported a new death in Douglas County west of Atlanta, bringing the toll in that county to four people. No more details were immediately available.
Other victims have included a 2-year-old boy who was swept away from his family when a creek ripped open their west Georgia mobile home Monday.
Aerial shots showed schools, parking lots and even entire neighborhoods submerged by the deluge, sending some unlucky residents scurrying for higher ground.

Where is Obama? No press conference?

Well I not going to go there, but I would like to know where he is.

It's not going to be a real emergency until New Orleans floods.

Katrina, 2005.
Never has there been a more politicized natural disaster.
But, that was different, of course.

Though the flooding is surely devastating, where is the comparison between increased semi-annual flooding and a city 300,000 being submerged due to a Hurricane?

We are having a heat wave in Southern California. I am sure a handful of old folks will die of heat stroke as they always do. Should Obama hold a press conference?

We have local governments for a reason.

And that was the point of the Katrina response. The local governments were supposed to do what people expected FEMA to do. The locals failed and FEMA kicked in later than the locals should have.

The Libbos had to figure out some way to blame everything on Bush. I wouldn't be surprised if Blanco and Nagin sabotaged the state and local response, just so the could finger Bush. It was that, or they're both incredibly stupid. Both possibilities are highly plausible.

I'll never forget Kathy Blanco calling the president and telling him everything was just fine...two hours after the 17th Street canal breached it's levee. That was classic stupidity.

So why the call for an Obama press conference in this case? Shouldn't any press conference come from the local governments?

I highly doubt any conspiracy took place. They were either ignorant, stubborn, or had those types of people reporting incorrect information to them.

Oh please. Was she supposed to predict the levee's were going to break two hours later?

Um, this is a state's issue. If the state needs help, they need to call on the national government for that help. Why aren't you calling out the governor of Georgia? I would be surprised if the national guard wasn't already in there doing what they can to help. If they aren't, that is the governor's call, not Obama's. If further assistance is needed, then they call Obama for it. See how that works? This is not about a 300,000 person city by the way. The flooding is restricted to small areas. Should they be protected? yes. Do we need to mobilize FEMA, not yet.

I don't doubt the stupidity involved at the state and local levels.

Are you guys kidding? Why should Obama talk to me about 8 people dying 1,000 miles from my home? What does that have to do with the president. 8 people were shot in LA last night. More than 8 people drowned in their bath tubs last night. This isn't a national emergency. If he said anything about it, you'd have then claimed he was using a tragedy for his political advantage. Even I know Obama can't play God and what, denounce the flood for being a killer? GiveMeABreak...

I bet you weren't saying that back in '05...:rofl

Friggin' hillarious!

What is your opinion of how GWB and FEMA handled Katrina?
FEMA did what it was supposed to do, about as well as it could be expected to do it, given the size and scope of the disaster. The vast majority of the emergency management failures were at the state and local level.

Also what makes you think Obama should get involved in routine flooding, which is much different than a massive hurricane hitting one of our biggest ports?
