Part of the problem with this is that teenagers are not rational. Raging hormones and ignorance are not a good combination, and kids that age are going to make stupid mistakes. I think at that age, it's important to work to turn their mistakes into successes.

Related to that, I hear single-sex private schools are making a comeback. I've heard good things about that, too.

And this changes in adulthood....how exactly?

They can make any mistake they want as long as they don't do it between the hours of 7AM and 3:30PM Monday through Friday.

I don't see the hormone factor really having an impact on them knowing how to write in proper English, do a matrix problem, or knowing their periodic table.

The hormone factor isn't in play when you tell them they need to know how many moles of Sodium is in 16 grams of salt before they can graduate to the next grade.

I think this whole "oh their only teenagers, they're too hormonal" line is exactly what has made teenagers the worthless sots that they are today.

Heh, what I wouldn't have given to go to an all boys school.

I think you can attribute the irrational kid problem to the schools themselves.

People used to begin their working careers at very early ages compared to now and if they were as irresponsible then as they are now they probably wouldn't have been employable at that time.

So maybe we school them too much.

But the issue isn't just the kids...it's systemic. Unions keep unqualified and apathetic teachers in schools teaching kids that only come to school to be baby sat because parents are unqualified to be parents and apathetic toward their kids' educations and administrators who are apathetic to anything but getting funding for their districts. And school boards like the ones in Texas that are apathetic to anything but raising their political profiles. And so kids get passed on from grade to grade without being equipped for the next one and next thing you know, you've got a full on dumbass walking across the stage in a cap and gown without sense enough to manage a checkbook or write a letter properly.

    It's really sad.
Even worse, you've got several million full on dumbasses basing their vote for President off of how he makes them feel instead of an educated, well thought out and researched opinion of that candidate's policies and history.

School kids need to get their asses beat more often. That's a big part of the problem.

Exactly. Any jackhole with a silver tongue appears smart when the depth of your education leaves you not knowing the difference between a constitutional republic and a direct democracy.
