I don't see the hormone factor really having an impact on them knowing how to write in proper English, do a matrix problem, or knowing their periodic table.
The hormone factor isn't in play when you tell them they need to know how many moles of Sodium is in 16 grams of salt before they can graduate to the next grade.
I think this whole "oh their only teenagers, they're too hormonal" line is exactly what has made teenagers the worthless sots that they are today.
People used to begin their working careers at very early ages compared to now and if they were as irresponsible then as they are now they probably wouldn't have been employable at that time.
So maybe we school them too much.
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.
