Tens of thousands attend broad protest of government in nation's capital

Sad thing is, a lot of these people haven't a clue what they are protesting:

Zogby: Obama Voters Uninformed

Zogby conducted an exit poll of ardent Obama voters and found that many were uninformed. Here are the appalling results from the polls:

1. 57.4 could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

2. 81.8 could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

3. 82.6 could NOT correctly say that Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

4. 88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

5. 56.1 % could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing). And yet…..

6. Only 13.7% failed to identify Palin as the person their party spent $150,000 in clothes on

7. Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

8. And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her “house,” even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Wonder which is worse?

Come on! Knock that crap off.

You're talking about southern democrats in the 1950's and 60's.
No, we're talking about registered Democrat loyal VOTERS today.

The KKK is not associated with any mainstream political lean. So just take that logic and file it under 'nice try' pal.
As was pointed out to you prior, I didn't bring it up, Jackalope did to imply that Republicans are more prone to being KKK members, I corrected that.

And the right is not associated with the KKK or racists either.

Now look at these racist rightwingers beating up on that white kid and cheering. Pathetic!

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Official Website | Current Events & Pop Culture, Comedy & Fake News

If you go to the main page for the Daily Show beneath the video there will be a listing that has the show's newest scenes. Click on the one called 'Mad Men.' That will be the video that Hazlnut posted. The video has not been pulled, nor is it a fake.

I thought it was brilliant how they used the old audio of Fox news talking about how horrible and un-American the anti-Bush rallies were. Then, cut to the real Fox news commentary and it's all about the peaceful American's exercising their rights.

They are to the right what Micheal Moore is to the left. Only he doesn't run a 24-hour news channel. (although I understand his next film skewers people in a bi-partisan manner)

Yes, fox news fans, them muslims are taking over...:roll:

The humor too highbrow?

Too New York?

Too low brow.

I'm sure that if someone wanted to subject themselves to the pain, they could find shows where he was defending protesters during the Bush years.

He's really not very funny.

Why didn't you reserve you tantrum for Jackalope since he's the one that brought up the KKK to begin with????

Selective outrage?

No, I'm not the one who introduced the KKK, and I'm also not a he.

This is priceless. Conservative wing-nut alternative reality:

Despite mainstream media attempts to characterize turnout as in the thousands, a spokesman for the National Park Service, Dan Bana, is quoted as saying “It is a record…. We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.”

National Park Service Admits 9/12 Demo Largest On Record

Reality:

The National Park Service says it will rely on a media report that says 1.8 million people attended President Obama's inauguration.
David Barna, a Park Service spokesman, said the agency did not conduct its own count. Instead, it will use a Washington Post account that said 1.8 million people gathered on the US Capitol grounds, National Mall, and parade route.
"It is a record," Barna said. "We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever."

Inaugural crowd size reportedly D.C. record - The Boston Globe

I saw many different interviews with folks that attended. The thing I noticed, is that they all seemed to believe that this was only the beginning of the movement, not the grand finale. If that's true, it's going to be a long four years for Obama and his ever loyal main stream media.
.

This is the beginning in terms of becoming 'mainstream'... this 'beginning' is accurate though... The people are finally seeing the complete disconnect that is present between government and the people. People are tired of being lied to from every angle, and this is the culmination of that disconnect... but it is still just the beginning in terms of where this is going.

I hope that this can be resulted without violence, but it seems the people are starting to draw those lines.

why are the protestors all white, if they truly are a grassroots movement? thanks.

So, out of the 100's of thousands to millions of people there, you checked everyone of their skin colors and verified?

There could be a variety of reasons that it's mainly white people that were drawn to DC that day.... NONE of them having anything to do about race in any way.

We don't like the results.... that's why a million plus people showed up in Washington DC. Saturday.... please try to keep up.

This is the culmination of YEARS of efforts in bringing people a level of awareness as to how their apathy is being used against them... it's easy to be apathetic when things are good... it's a whole different story when your at risk of losing your house, the government is infringing on just about every productive element of society, are threatening to end the second ammendment, and a variety of other BIG issues.

Sure Glen Beck fans count for a portion of those people, he's trying to take over that whole movementr and maintain an air of credibility.

Sad thing is, a lot of these people haven't a clue what they are protesting:

YouTube - 9.12 DC TEA PARTY - MARCH FOOTAGE WITH INTERVIEWS

I watched through that, and out of all the people mentioned, there were a couple 'eccentrics', but only a couple of them seemed stupid.... pretty much all of them explained pretty adequately their specific gripes.

No, I'm not the one who introduced the KKK, and I'm also not a he.

Perhaps an indication of your gender in your personal information would prevent future mistakes.

where are the confederate flags, and the "undocumented worker" signs?

btw.....healthcare reform hasn't killed thousands of our men and women.
Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it hasn't passed yet. :doh

Meh about the numbers, many of us Libertarians, and Right wingers, only protest one way. This ain't the time.

sure they did. lol.

Sorry to burst your bubble. But when the entire Washington Mall, from the Capitol to the WM is filled up, it holds roughly 240,000. Taking that into considering, the estimate of 60-70k seems pretty accurate.

Another way to think about it is most football/baseball stadiums hold in the neighborhood of 50-100K.

Ever been in a crowd leaving the stadium? This is about the same size.

How does this "burst my bubble"?

Anyone with access to Google Maps can look to see that the Mall and Pennsylvania Ave from the Capitol out to 14th & E encompass about the same area, more or less. Physics being what they are, if one area holds x number, then a similar area holds a similar number.

Sorry to once again burst your bubble, but the mall is about 4x a wide as Pennsyvania Ave.

Even the event organizers aren't trying to inflate the numbers in the way the wacko bloggers are.

More and more denial. How tedious. Why present facts and nonpartisan analyses. It's a waste of time.

Exactly...this is why is it only the fringer's still trying to dispute the official estimates. I don't see how trumping up the figures helps their cause, it actually makes them look that much more marginal.

Lets say it's 60k.

That's still a hell of a lot of people for a tax/healthcare/deficit protest....

Glenn Beck and the University of I Don't Remember Do a "Body Count"
Glenn Beck appeared this morning on Fox & Friends, where he insisted that the the Tea Party march on Washington attracted 1.7 million people. This is more than twice what even the organizers of the event say it was, with the FreedomWorks estimate yesterday being between 600,000 and 800,000.

Beck cited a university study of the crowd -- though he's not sure which university: "We had a university, I think it's University of -- I don't remember which university it is -- um, look at the pictures. And you know, they can do body space and calculate -- 1.7 million, that crowd was estimated."

Gretchen Carlson noted that they'd only been saying tens of thousands, which Beck brushed off as the official report. "If you look at the pictures, university looked at it, did the body count, et cetera et cetera, 1.7 million."

Of course, he wasn't there to attend his own event, so how can we be sure? Maybe the University of I Don't Remember has posted their findings...

4x? I don't think so.

Besides, the length out to 14th & E is longer, and like I said, all we can see in the pic is the people in the frame. There's a lot more of DC than just PA Ave.

Even the event organizers aren't trying to inflate the numbers in the way the wacko bloggers are.

I didn't give any numbers. I commented on the pic and the area it encompassed -- nothing more, nothing less.

Exactly.
There's bound to be some legitimately concerned citizens who aren't racist, socialist, Nazi lovin', devil worshiping dumb dumbs. Why must those people's important opinions of opposition be broad brushed by main stream and shallow partisanship?

Probably because these days its more about entertainment to people. Not about issues. Pity.
