Tens of thousands attend broad protest of government in nation's capital

So, Obama isn't trying to push through a (near) trillion-dollar bill at a time when deficits are already off the scale?

Now this is an effective argument. It's also my argument against a public option.

Msnbc reported an estimate of "Tens of Thousands".
While the reporter on the scene, reported an estimate of "Hundreds of Thousands."

60,000 people isn't that many people. That's a large town or a very small city. There are hundreds in the smallest states.
Even if just 60k, that is a significant turnout for conservatives because they are not generally given to protesting enmasse like liberals are.
Many people do not understand that.

I just noticed that the video I provided earlier showed Acorn up to no-good yet again.
Did Acorn use tax dollars to purchase those "Don't Tread On Me" flags they were selling at the demonstration?
What the heck did they think they were doing?

Health care has been one of the primary focuses of the U.S. government for decades. Expenditures have been rising exponentially in the private sector and consequently for government as well. Various criticisms have been leveled as to why this is the case, and effective reform requires that lots of money be spent. The only way not to spend lots and lots of money on health care is to do what the Bush Administration did and ignore it, thereby increasing deficits in the long run. They may not like the finer points of the health bill legislation being drafted on capital hill, but objecting to it simply because it costs a lot of money is insincere and foolish.

You can maybe carve off a hundred billion or two and still have somewhat effective reform, but there isn't really a point; the amount of money that is being projected to be saved in the long run by people in private and for the U.S. government as a result of reform is supposed to compensate for any temporary loss. When you are investing for long term gain, a hundred billion or two out of eight isn't very important.

National Park Service Admits 9/12 Demo Largest On Record

a spokesman for the National Park Service, Dan Bana, is quoted as saying “It is a record…. We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.”

The past largest march was Dr. Kings march which was around 1.8 Million.

Also one other item I would like to point out that doesn't get reported but this was a three day event, now how does this effect the actual number's I'm not sure.

Oh and few other items to throw in how the Park Service come's up with the numbers, they use all Police/Fire and Emegancy Numbers along with Aerial Shots taken by the USAF and NSC/NSA to show crowd size.

I really don't think so.

Seems this is a bit more than mere "Right wing fringe" groups.... What do you all think of this turnout, to me, it indicates a possible out of touchness with this administration.
10's of thousands, as opposed to the 930k freedomworks claimed. all seem to be white, btw. sometimes i wonder what they are really protesting, what with the all the lovely signs they displayed.

I am not going to trust that one. Pictures comparing the crowd Saturday to the inauguration show that Saturday was less than half that size.

Why, because you say so?

"Foolish" is a $1.6T + deficit with promises to "cut it in half" over several years. (To $800B? Only after several years?)

That, I assure you, is quite sincere.

Geeeezzzz.... The Government once seized a whore house in Nevada for back taxes. The law required that they run the business until they could sell it.... it went bankrupt.

Now you want a group that can't make a go out of selling booze and sex to take over another 1/6th of our economy? Hello!!!! :2wave:

Conforte dealt mostly in cash and kept few records. By 1990, the IRS was fed up with his tax shenanigans and seized the ranch, putting the federal government in the unique position of running a brothel. It failed and the ranch was padlocked for the first time.

I don't really like going over the old information that everybody should already know, but it is because it costs too much -- collectively, something like 2 trillion a year for both government and Americans. Tends to be too much for both, leading to borrowing, in the case of the government, and credit, in the case of Americans.

But that's not why I think they are insincere or hypocritical; I think that for a different reason. On this point, I just think they are being foolish.

CLEAN Conservatives vs FILTHY Liberals-- A Photographic Essay

Gateway Pundit: CLEAN Conservatives vs FILTHY Liberals-- A Photographic Essay

Looks like case closed.

Many of the protesters I saw were incensed by obscene spending and deficits. That's not limited only to health care.

That's where the hypocrisy and insincerity comes in. Massive spending and deficits were a problem 30 years ago when Reagan came up with the theory that you could finance the military and all other government programs with borrowed money, lower taxes as a result, and then pay back the debt with interest later without hurting the economy much, because the economy would have grown so large that even while the tax rates remain low the amount of money being taxed would yield larger profits for the government. Phase 1 of his plan worked, phase 2 also worked, but phase 3 didn't work, because while growth in the private sector was good (for awhile), it wasn't anywhere near enough to finance the debt of 8 years.

To some extent, that policy decision characterizes the spending habits of every Administration since, with the exception of Clinton. The end result is 10-11 trillion dollars of debt -- almost all of it conservative in origin. This has been a long process 30 years in the making, but it is only now that a Democrat, a liberal, who is actually spending the amount of money conservatives have hitherto only fantasized about liberals spending, that the issue is worth having a protest over. I find that hypocritical and insincere; there were dozens of opportunities over the last 30 years to make this into an issue; probably would have occurred during Clinton's Administration if he had actually been a huge spender, but it was ignored and excused on behalf of Reagan and the Bush's, with Bush Junior finally getting some of the fall out -- but most of it being reserved for Obama.

You seem to have a reality problem...

National-Debt-GDP.gif

Notice when the line starts going almost straight up? Who was in charge of the nations purse at that time? (hint... the year is 2007)

That is simply not true. It is just an assertion you are making. From the media reports I recall about the anti-war protests, most had never attended a protest before. Same as the people yesterday.
Code Pink? Cindy Sheehan? The Berkely staff/student body? These are people who've made a career out of protesting.

The people who attended the marches you cited were no more professional activists, or members of an organization, or 'cajoled' into attending than were yesterday's attendees.
Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakan?

It just happens to be that more people attended the marches you cited than attended Saturday's Tea Party. So, you are diminishing them by saying, they are not grassroots. It's simply not true.
Regular taxpayers are not on par with Jackson, Sharpton, Sheehan, Code Pink, Farrakan, etc. Sorry, the argument does not fly.

These deficits and projected defcits are in a whole new class. Obama's first deficit comes within sniffing distance of Bush's last whole budget.

But even if it IS hypocritical, that doesn't mean it's actually wrong. It certainly doesn't make it ignorant or insincere.

WHAT is the deal with all the ignorant 'You're not American so stfu posts'?
As IF Americans don't feel the right to comment on the whooooole rest of the world.
Really? Cause it's none of my business and I treat it as such.

I really don't think so.

Really don't think what you can't come up with a decent rebutt or you just can't face the fact that the Park Service estimated that this was the largest March in US History or the fact that Middle Class Americans are starting to make their voice be heard. So which one is it????

The national park service estimated the crowd at 60k, not even close to being the largest in US history. Actually , quite a small number.

Ah wrong answer there would you like ot go back and re-read page's 11thru 15 stopping at the two links that have been put up. Oh and the US Park Service Spokeperson Dan Bana stated that the Park service is calling this the largest march in DC History but hey what the hell does the park Service know it's not like they are the one's who actually work the thing, oh wait they are the one's who work it :doh

Key mistake, you are attempting to use facts in an argument that puts the reality back into where stalini.....er....I mean liberalism stands.
You know Disneydude won't let you get away with such a weak debate tactic as using facts.

Those people / groups were neither the organizers of any of the marches you cited, nor were do they have membership in the numbers that attended the marches you cited.

The people who attended the Million Marches, and the anti-war marches were grassroots people who supported what they believed the cause to be - same as those that attended the rally on Saturday.

You are being very disingenuous here, everyone knows Berkely had an organized rally in the city against the war, everyone knows Code Pink organizes protests around the country, and the Million Man/Mom March were organized by the black reverends and the group Million Moms(which is why they called it the million mom march;)).

No they in fact weren't, a quick look at the groups mission statements and who they take contributions from told me the opposite, and, they are funded specifically to organize protests.
