A commercial airliner carrying 104 passengers has been hijacked on the tarmac at Mexico City's airport, CNN affiliate TV Azteca reported Wednesday.

An image from TV Azteca shows helicopters hovering at Mexico City's airport, site of a reported hijacking.

Three abductors aboard the Boeing 737 Aeromexico jet have threatened to blow it up if their demand to speak to President Felipe Calderon is not met, the station said.

The plane is coming from Cancun so I am sure a number of Americans are among the 104 aboard. Word is hijackers are Bolivian and there is no know reason why they want to speak with Mexico's President.

Am I the only one surprised that hijacking is still possible?

Hope everyone will be okay ...

How wouldn't it be possible? If you insert enough intimidation and fear on a group of people anything is possible.

Hardening of cockpit doors .... I thought would-be hijackers simply could not access a cockpit anymore.

I would image that is how the plane was able to land at Mexico City safely. The report doesn't say they got into the cockpit and took control of the plane. Only that they were threatening to blow it up.

It seems Mexico President Felipe Calderon was at the airport in a private hangar getting read to take off when this occurred. If not coincidence, it seems quite strategically well planned on the hijackers part to know the President would be at the airport at that exact same time their plane landed in Mexico City from Cancun.

The Bible-carrying hijacker used a juice can he said was a bomb to hold the 103 passengers and crew on the tarmac for more than an hour. Masked police stormed the aircraft with their guns drawn and escorted several handcuffed men away without firing a shot. Police later said there was only one hijacker.

The days of hi-jacking an American aircraft are purdy much over.
