White House releases text of Obama's 9/8 speech to America's schoolchildren

That's why I said I have no problem with it as long as they stick to that kind of a non-agenda driven message.

There's no gaurantee that a president will stick to a non-agenda driven message. We're talking about politicians here, afterall. It's Pandora's box, IMO.

So if that's your problem, how about you complain when that happens rather than assume it will from the start?

Granted, just because Reagan pushed his economic policies in his radio broadcasts to kid doesn't mean every politician will.

I can't help but wonder what the Libruls would have been saying had Bush done this. :doh

i posted most of this on the thread that will not die, please forgive the repetitions

it was a very good speech

it was NOT the talk he would have given had this event not become such a political storm

there was zero or almost zero self promotion in it, and we all know our dear president a lot better than that

yes, a fine speech

but a couple small problems

1. he emphasized too much the responsibility of teachers, parents and the govt in each child's own personal growth and development, it's true obama did turn it to the student's role and job in his or her education, but then back again he went to what could be interpreted by normal kids looking for em as built in excuses

2. it was too inner-city for a national audience, right speech but wrong group, 2/3 of these kids are not really experiencing the real tragedies the president so powerfully and appropriately points to, he should have given that part of his address only to that target audience

3. the MEANING of this event, however, is still clear and unmistakable---our president, for whatever reasons, is unable to do something as inocuous as enter a hi school gym to talk to our kids without a near riot (politically speaking) breaking out

that's very revealing

this is how you know what's going on in politics, folks

you gotta learn to read the signs

and this one is huge

now, one of the ways it works is this---

all democrat elected representatives, they watch these things very closely

they see that the president is besieged by enemies pretty much simply for saying hello

then the prez comes to em needing a vote for health care...

it doesn't look good, folks

it doesn't look good

I would have been okay with it. Believe it or not, but as much as I hated G.W. Bush as this nation's 43rd President, I watched every national press conference he gave. Not so much to scutinize it (thought I've done that with every President since Carter), but because he was our President. Like him or not, I wanted to know what he had to say.

Safe from some charliton showing up on the scene and using that venue as a way to indoctrinate our children. Don't call it paranoid, acting as if it's never happened before, because it has. I say we play it safe and just stay away from the practice.

When has it happened before in this country's history? I know of it happening in some Communist countries, i.e., Russia, N. Korea, China, and in most Muslin nations, but when has such a thing ever happened in the U.S.?

I'm fairly sure that the Executive has never coordinated with the education department to set lesson plans following a Presidential address beamed into every classroom in the nation either.

Obama is on the TV every day, what - exactly - is he doing on it now? What, his media guru's figured out he wasn't hitting this tween demographic hard enough? Get this fool off the TV and onto something that matters.

Um, the questions sent to the schools are as harmless (or helpful) as the speech is. Also, it's not being "beamed" anywhere. It's called television. Lord have mercy, these overreactions are just crazy.

Please tell me you're not serious.....

I know you're being sarcastic, but this is how it always gets started.

Oh you've got to be ****ting me. REALLY?

"Hey guys, the President is giving a speech. Don't you know, that's how this always gets started. First he gives speeches, then people start adoring him, and next thing you know he's gassing the joos! HE'S A NAZI! NAZI I TELL YOU. ITS STARRRRRRTING".

Yes, its obvious exactly how it gets started. Didn't you know, we have all been Nazi's since 1984

They would have pissed their pants and they all know it.

Yeah, many of them probably would. And guess what, many on the other side that are pissing their pants about Obama the past week would've been mindlessly defending Bush and blasting all the liberals "pissing their pants".

I laugh my ass off every time one side goes "Well your side would've done it too" completley ignoring that they'd be the current mirror image as well.

It's okay I suppose. As much as I dislike Obama I can't really find fault with the speech.

This means you are:

1. a communist
2. a Nazi
3. a liberal
4. a Muslim
5. a black person
6. a Chicago Cubs fan
7. Michelle Obama
8. Michael Moore
9. Sarah Silverman
10.Judge Judy
11. an ordinary boring person with some common sense.

I will defer to you on which one you are...and don't you dare respond and pick 11. That is precisely what a dirty commie would do (or a New York Yankees fan).

And we’ve got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I’m glad you all could join us today
And we have got?
I thougt this guy was supposed to be a master of the language?

I’m calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education – and to do everything you can to meet them
What if that goal is to get to the age that you are allowed to drop out, and the do so?

This was poorly said.

I am not sure how anyone can think that Obama isn't a nice and personable person; I agree he is way out of his league, and economically challenged moron and likes to associate with radical elements, but I can't see anything that is "mean" or "despicable" about the man, other than his obvious arrogance.

I think the message is right on; although I am not sure of its purpose other than prepping kids for some major changes to their education coming down the pike which one can hope means a REAL effort to educate and not indoctrinate; what if we REALLY taught them math, economics and English? Wouldn’t that be radical?

:rofl
do you mean he's broke, or what?

Yeah because we all know how into politics kids are.

It has nothing to do with kids in politics but everything to do with a kid coming home and saying the president was nice and said good things.

Parents review his speech on the nightly news and find it to be "inspiring", tomorrow night is his televised health care speech and those emotionally "inspiring" speeches will be connected.
