I think its always good though to give both sides time, that way Americans get to see both sides of the issue. I think this can only be helpful to educating people about the facts because whatever is said is going to be scrutinized and it is unlikely either side won't be called out on distorting facts.

I've got an idea though....the GOP should let that Louisiana guy do it again...you know.... that guy who is supposed to be their strong candidate for President...the guy to take on Obama....who gave such an incredible and stunning response for the GOP once before.

Per the fairness doctrine, Obama MUST allow republicans to broadcast an equal amount of time into those classrooms as he does.

Obama supports the fairness doctrine, he just can't call it "the fairness doctrin". They are trying to implement the same policies under different names in smaller pieces instead of one bill.

But anyway, Rush Limbaugh has to have the same air time broadcast into the schools as Obama, to be "fair".

IMO, it's not what Obama wants to say, it's that he wants to do this at all. Releasing the script means nothing because there should be no script.

What's stopping him from pulling a Hannity and Colmes and just bringing a liberal Republican who will agree with all of the Democratic talking points?

Without seeing what others have posted, here's my take.

The republicans don't have a "right" to be given equal time on TV after Obama's monthly attempt to convince the American people to support his agenda.

The truth is, they shouldn't have to demand equal time, or even ask politely for it. They should be offered equal time to present an opposing, or alternative view by the main stream media, for the sole purpose of better informing the American public. The big 3 television networks have eagerly offered air time to president Obama every time he has requested it. He has used this unprecedented amount of TV time to "sell" his visions, policies and overall agenda to the American people, with little or no air time given for the presentation of alternatives.

This is a disservice to the public, and resembles more closely a state run media like Venezuela has, rather than the free and open press we are supposed to have.

The speech that republicans want airtime to rebut is not the speech about education. It's about health care, and to the best of my knowledge, there is no script available. Obama will probably be talking about the importance of reading for understanding in his education speech though, so you might want to watch the speech.

Whatever you think about Obama's evil motives, the fact is that it is NOT currently the law. I completely agree that networks should give the Republicans equal time, but they are under no legal obligation to do so.

I am sure that this has been said before in this thread but if the only thing Obama says is" stay in school, education will help you get a good paying job and help you achieve your goals in life", then no there should be any republican opposition speach. If he tries to cram some agenda then yes they should be allowed to say their piece and it should be mandated that the schools show this too not just turn the tv off when Obama is done speaking.

And another one. Obama has two big scheduled speeches next week. Tuesday, he talks to school children about staying in school, Wednesday he talks to a joint session of the house and senate about health care. Republicans want time to counter his Wednesday speech on health care, not his Tuesday speech on education.

Look another birther. Actually it was never proved Bush wasn't awol. Rather got nailed because there was no way the documents he had could be authenticated because they were copies. Killian's own secretary attested that her boss felt that way about Bush. But they never found what happened to that missing year and the documents in Bush's record that went missing.

So what sources do you trust? I'm surprised worldnetdaily wasn't on your list of reliable sources

If Obama is paying for airtime out his own pocket or some private group is paying for that airtime then no the networks shouldn't have to air the opposition speech. If the networks are getting some sort of tax break or the tax payers are footing the bill then yes the networks should have to air the opposition side.

You seem to be purposely mixing this up with the fairness doctrine with how the government spends tax payer's money. Liberal fairness doctrine is requiring radio stations to air both sides of any issue they choose to air or talk about. Actual fairness doctrine would require that both sides of an issue be aired and it would apply to tv, newspapers, radio and bloggers, not just only radio.
