given what has been exposed about Obama appointee's i really doubt anything will come of this. Just another Democratic Tax Cheat. Since they do not campaign on being morals and virtues they are allowed to be criminal scumbags and keep their jobs

Is is still true that the ethics investigations were all initiated by Rangel himself? or have there been others opened not at his request?

Regardless, his chairmanship is too important to be held by someone who has questions pending, imo. I think he should step aside from the chairmanship.
And,,,Prosecuted for Tax Evasion, to the Full Extent of the Law. You can bet if either of us tried what he did,,,our butts would be in the Slammer.

Can you please explain what you are talking about?
As far as I know, Rangel has not been prosecuted for tax evasion.

    He should be...This is why.

Congressman Rangel has been arrogant in refusing to discuss how, as the man who writes this country's tax laws, he failed to report over $1 million in outside income and $3 million in business transactions as required by the House, lapses under investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

"I recognize that all of you have an obligation to ask questions knowing that there's none of you smart enough to frame it in such a way that I'm going to respond," Rangel said.

There may be a reason for Rangel's arrogance. CBS 2 HD has discovered that since ethics probes began last year the 79-year-old congressman has given campaign donations to 119 members of Congress, including three of the five Democrats on the House Ethics Committee who are charged with investigating him.

    Good Night all.

The Washington Post is calling for him to resign his chairmanship of the House Ways & Means committee.

    Sorry, Charlie
Rep. Rangel must step aside as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

FOR POLITICIANS with major bad news to release or to make public, there's no time like the dead of August to do it. The thinking goes that the public won't remember a thing come September. We hope Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.) will have no such luck. His belated revelation of previously unreported income, property and bank accounts demands that he step aside as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

You do not have enough facts and information to make that determination. I find it unlikely that he will be prosecuted for tax evasion. Lots of people make tax errors, and even significant ones, there are add'l requirements under the law for the crime of evasion to be prosecuted.

Yes, someone posted that in the thread.
I kind of think he should step aside from the chairmanship too.

$4,000,000 in "Un-Reported Income" isn't a Fact"? YOU try it and see what happens to you with the I.R.S...

    Please Jack.

Good for you Jack. Now this is what the Republican Leader had to say. The whole time he's "asking" Charlie to do the "Right Thing",,,he's kissing his butt.

If you really want to see what's being said about this, check out the "Comment Section", at the bottom of the Post.

Re: Charlie Rangel "Gives" Campaign Donations to Dems on the "Ethics Commitee"

Just ran across a rundown article re: Rangel and the various ethics investigations. It's on TPM, which isn't mainstream media, hope it's okay to post that in a reply here. If not, will the mods please split this off and make it its own thread in a more appropriate place?

Taking Stock Of The Rangel Probe: What's He Accused Of?
    Zachary Roth | September 7, 2009, 1:36PM

Last week, Republicans intensified their calls for the ouster of Rep. Charles Rangel from his job as chair of the House Ways and Means committee. The Harlem Democrat has been under fire thanks to a string of revelations about irregularities in his personal financial arrangements. But Nancy Pelosi is so far unmoved, with her aides telling Politico she'll wait for the results of a House ethics investigation before taking any action.

The probe has been underway for almost a year, and it's not clear when the results might be made public. So while we all wait, it's worth a quick refresher on what the ethics panel is looking at, and what it might all amount to.

The investigation is focused on several, largely unconnected examples of potential financial misconduct by Rangel. In rough order of seriousness:
