So, eighty percent of your six billion dollars could be freed up to get the prisoners and the prison guards out of the jailhouse and back into the community helping to solve these problems

    So that's 17%, not 80%. Close though.

(It should also be said that this entire report groups together personnel from all four service branches, which means that the aggregate numbers do not necessarily represent any one of the branches separately.)

There’s a further important point that can’t be found in this report but can be found in another one, which compiles race-specific U.S. military fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan. As of March 1, 2008, there were 2,964 white fatalities in Iraq, representing 74.8 percent of the total; in the general population, meanwhile, whites in that age cohort make up about 62 percent of the population, so whites are overrepresented among Iraqi fatalities. Blacks and Hispanics, meanwhile, are both underrepresented; the same is true in Afghanistan.

Yea, it really looks like its only those people of color fighting those "petro-wars"

This guy seriously sounds like a 24 year old sitting in his Colloquium on "Race and Society: The Diaspora." What a douche.

Perhaps poor kids in Beverly Hills are more likely to join the military than rich kids in Detroit? Or perhaps the poorest kids get filtered out because they're also the least educated? Or perhaps the poorest kids are more likely to view crime instead of public service as a more lucrative career path? Or perhaps it's harder for recruiters to contact potential recruits in the poorest neighborhoods?

It's hard to tell...maybe I'll think of a better explanation later. Very interesting chart though.

I wish they had family data as well, but I don't think that's collected by the military.

The only main explanation I can really come up with is that to a large degree, the military weeds out those with criminal histories and those without high school degrees. That could be enough to skew it that way.

Yup, this is the sophistication and "nuanced" thought we were told we were missing out on for the past eight years.

And I'm sure there's nothing racially biased in his thought. Certainly not, I mean, after all, he's a liberal, right?
You got to be kidding considering Cheney was telling people to "F" off on the Senate floor!

Please tell us what we should expect from the "FAMILY VALUES PARTY" should you come to power again?

I think he meant to say Libertarian and forgot to add act classless when nobody except 15 kids on the internet agree with them. It's like a requirement that in order to be Libertarian you have to be an asshole and make personal attacks because nobody except for you wants to live 19th century. He got the wrong people. Misspoke!

This guy sounds like one of the biggest dbags imaginable. There's something seriously off about the type of people who join groups like this.

Before I saw that, I had been inclined to say that as a result of this publicity, he might end up pulling a "leaving this position to pursue opportunities in the private sector." Somehow, I don't think he's they type of guy to go quietly like that.
He absolutely sounds like a douchebag. Give me a break. What the hell was Obama thinking in making this anti-white person an adviser?

How is this sexism allowed? Hysteria already has negative sexist connotations, but to further the relationship by putting "womanish" as if women were the only crazy ones in this country. Why not put Glenn Beckian hysteria? The guy probably yells and cries more than any man or woman in this country.

According to Hannity and Beck? Well that's just a reliable source there I guess I should just take your word for it. Beck who had people believing that there were fema concentration camps did many shows on it and then disproved it in one show after spreading bull**** on all the other shows. These guys aren't credible. He was arrested after being a monitor during the riots. The police just arrested a whole bunch of people and the charges were dropped and the city ended up paying money to him and others. So no he didn't spend 2 years in prison. He called himself a communist over a decade ago. Would you like to try again?

Slander is a hard case to prove in court. Beck slanders people all the time. So again do you have any actual proof of your claims?

Well come on, isn't it OBVIOUS....

Asshole is CODE LANGUAGE for "Uppity White Cracker", I mean, its patentedly obvious to anyone that can see it. They can't actually say "Uppity White Cracker" so they substitute it with "asshole" as a secret code. I mean, look throughout time, there's plenty of historical evidence of white people being called "assholes"...code language. Its my judgement call.

    Okay, Joe and Former specifically....

For the past months with this idiotic nazi thing and this idiotic "republican plants" thing and everything else we've been hearing this drum beat of "Oh look, the republicans are bringing up the past again. Does two wrongs make a right? Why don't you stop making excuses and focus on condemning your own people. Who cares about thep ast. OH look republicans bringing up democrats again, wah wah wah".

And as such, the next thing to logically do is.........have something happen with someone on your side and defend/ignore it by turning around and going "But look, but look, republicans did this".

    Seriously?

Could someone explain me these rules? Joe, Former, do you get to bitch about republicans bringing up when democrats have done the exact same things as them in years past but then get to turn around and do the exact same thing?

At least be a little bit consistant in your asinine arguments.

IMHO seriously, this is a minor issue, it was a minior issue with Bush and Cheney saying it about some reporter. Politicians are human. I can't think of anyone I know that's never said someone is a dick, an asshole, a jerk, etc. Its not exactly uncommon. "OMG A politician swore", who the **** cares. There's a great many liberals and conservatives on this very forum that I don't doubt if put around people of their own type would have no issues calling some members of the other side "assholes".

A big to do about nothing, with the writer trying to make this a big story looking like an asshole himself.
