This is one of those times when I have a problem with our constitutional ban on "cruel and unusual punishment." I'm not proud to say that I think the most fitting punishment for this pond scum is a life of constant torture and humiliation.

All his assets should be seized and turned over to the woman and her children. Those poor folks are going to need a lot of help, catchup education, psychological counseling and support, and something to build their lives from scratch.

Wrong. Anal rape in this instance is what professionals in the field call restorative justice. It allows the offender to experience the REAL HARM done to the victim and is an important part of rehabilitation. I figure 30-40 years of anal rape should be just enough to rehabilitate these freaks.

I saw the title to this thread and tried not to open it. Unfortenately humans have a morbid sense of curiosity that over rides their sensibility at times.

This is one case where I highly HIGHLY advocate the use of torture. These despicable low life lower than turds deserve nothing less than extreme torture that lasts for years.

Neighbours knew of some weird stuff happening, yet no one acted on it. Sad.

No its just your own personal desire for vengeance. I understand where you are coming from, its not like I wouldn't feel some satisfaction watching the couple suffer. However, building law and government policy on such emotions isn't a good idea.

There's a headline that they are going to investigate the guy for possible murder of a prostitute. While I like thinking that more charges are coming, I don't want him to get the death penalty. I feel that's the easy way out.

I've been to the backyard of my neighbor maybe once. I mean it's not hard to hide something in your backyard. Why do you think people bury corpses all the time their backyards?

Somehow I doubt there are many "professionals in this field" who would recommend anal rape as part of the rehabilitation process.

Yeah but there's kids running around neighborhoods, folks walking their dogs, nosy neighbors, etc. I put up some well placed bushed to minimize the amount of conversations I have to have with the sweet but demented old lady that is my neighbor and she still manages to converse with me about 45% of the time I'm out back. If you imprison someone in your backyard how do keep them from screaming out? Around here folks get pissed if your dog barks too much.

It sounds like it's a combo of Stockholm Syndrome and a huge backyard obstructed by trees.

Back where I grew up, I could have built a college dorm in my backyard without my neighbors knowing.

Practically guaranteed. They're older than their mother was when he kidnapped her, and offenders like this are not only likely to abuse their own children, they're less likely to view the offspring of their victims as any more human-- or any more their flesh and blood-- than their victims themselves.

Of course, they can't discuss what may or may not have happened to the underaged victims, and their identity has already been given away by default.

I agree with everyone saying that hanging is too good for them, but I'd like to remind that indulging in our desire to humiliate and torture these people is not good enough for us.

One of the sheds was soundproofed. Agree about the Stockholm Syndrome. I read where she told her mother she feels guilty for the feelings she has for this man. :(

The damage done to this woman and her children is immeasurable. The mere fact that we refer to her as a woman instead of a 11 yr old kidnap victim speaks volumes towards this.

A part of me wants to remind everyone that we're better than this. We can take this mentally deranged person out of society and place him somewhere he can recieve the help he needs and at the same time protect the rest of us from him.

That's a small part of me. It's being overridden by the part of me that wants a hot iron poker and lessons in some of the arts lost to the dark ages.

I read an article yesterday evening about a neighbor who says that he had spoken to Jaycee through the fence on a number of occasions.
He didn't realize anything was amiss. She never said so.

Obviously, she was complicit in her continuing captivity. It was not a matter of "screaming out".
She was brainwashed or whatever. She did have opportunities to speak to outsiders. She did not indicate that anything was wrong or that she was in need of rescue.

If anything good can possibly come from this tragic affair, it will be that the psychiatric community will probably gain much of value from the study this poor woman and her children.
Obviously, it's unethical to set up such situations for research purposes, but once they've already occurred, it's not unethical to study them and glean useful information from them, in the course of trying to help the victims.
These studies could have a far-reaching positive impact on, say, children who have grown up deprived of sufficient external stimulation. Which could in turn help many abused and neglected children and/or children growing up in generational poverty (or rather, help psychologists and language specialists and educators learn what needs to be done to help such children catch up, or whether it's even possible for them to do so).
It could potentially teach us a lot that would benefit society as a whole.
