Rep. Jenkins: GOP looking for "great white hope"

Poor choice of words or Freudian Slip?

Rep. Jenkins: GOP looking for "great white hope" - Yahoo! News

U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins told a recent gathering in northeast Kansas that the Republican Party is looking for a "great white hope" to help stop the political agenda of the Democratic party and President Barack Obama.

Whether you agree or not....either way this cannot help the perception that a great deal of the GOP discontent with Obama is race based.

There's no reason to be discontented over Obama race when he's done such a terrible job thus far. There are far more important and pressing issues to be discontented with Obama.

I'm not saying that I disagree. As much as I support Obama, I would be lying if I said that I am 100% in favor of the job he is doing, probably for different reasons than many. I wish Obama would grow a little bit more of a spine and use the political capital he was given in the election and stop trying to appease the right-leaning moderates.

That said...there is still certainly a big perception that a large part of the discontent has little to do with policy and more to do with race...and comments such as this add fuel to that fire.

Obama has been in office for 8 months.

Bush was in office for 9 months, and what happened?

If Obama allows a major terrorist attack that leads to two wars and an economy in recession, then I'll consider that he is doing a "terrible job" but the last president set the bar pretty low.

And Obama's done near nothing to raise it.

    Still in Iraq?
    Secret prisons?
    Torture?
    Domestic Spying?
    Rapid expansion of government?
    Rapid expansion of debt?
    More intrusive government?

Yup, all the things I didn't like about Bush, still around in a different packaging. Way to maintain the status quo Obama!

So this is race based, but Obama calling whitey typical racists is not?

His attack on sgt crowley was not?

His referencing to "not looking like the other canidates" not?

Sitting in a racist church not?

Please, This statment by one republican was stupid and race baiting, just as obama's statements were.

Niether represent the beliefs of either party....

Obama is withdrawing troops from Iraq, closing Gitmo, ending torture practices, etc. Those are pretty weak arguments.

That was a stupid thing to say and of course, we'll have to wait for the wash to come out and see if it's exactly what he said, because we know how things can get twisted in the Libbo media.

There are plenty of reasons to hate PBo, besides the color of his skin. there's no doubt he would be just as ****ed up, if he were white.

We're not withdrawing from Iraq, closing Gitmo...opening another? The option for secret prisons was kept open. Torture practices were kept the same as the Bush admin.
