There is another thread about the abysmal care of expectant mothers under the English NHS system. In that thread, many lefties and a few Brits did everything possible to kill the messenger rather than dispute the message.

Here is another story on the caregivers at NHS. I realize that the vast majority of doctors and nurses in the British system do everything possible to provide proper care to their patients, but obviously there is a large number that need to find another line of work.

I read that the NHS has a staff of 1.4 million, most of whom are bureaucrats. In my opinion, that is the fear of many here in the U.S. We all see how bloated government entities become. Just look at our school systems. National health care is NOT the answer.

One million NHS patients have been the victims of appalling care in hospitals across Britain, according to a major report released today.

In the last six years, the Patients Association claims hundreds of thousands have suffered from poor standards of nursing, often with 'neglectful, demeaning, painful and sometimes downright cruel' treatment.

The charity has disclosed a horrifying catalogue of elderly people left in pain, in soiled bed clothes, denied adequate food and drink, and suffering from repeatedly cancelled operations, missed diagnoses and dismissive staff.

What do you think the chances are of seeing this in our mainstream media? Slim or none??

This happens now in our current healthcare system.

Of course it does, to a very limited extent. I've never seen any report on U.S. health care that claims the kinds of numbers outlined in this British report.

Most of the poor care in this country is in nursing homes that employ poorly trained aids at low wages.

The government cannot run anything large scale effectively or efficiently. Any capitalist can tell you that. This is just proof of there claims. I personally find NHS treatment is hard to come by because of the pathetic waiting lists for something as simple as a scan. I have the option to go private. Some people are not as fortunate as i am.

There is also the risk of being uninsured and sitting under $25,000+ debt essentially for the benefit of a simple scan that I would have been happy to wait for. This is my situation.

My NHS care has always been perfect. Always fast, yes i can find faults but who can't?

And i am sure cruel care in the form of rejection occurs in US.

One million of your countrymen were not so lucky.

Why aren't you insured??

i'm always amazed that we seem to think we can't do it better. what happened to the attitude that americans CAN do better?

and i believe that for every horror story out of britian, i can find one to match in america.

What gets me is that our leftwing politicians want to ram this through Congress upon the American citizenry, while not knowing the foreign systems they promote nor the bill that sits in front of them. They are incompetent to do the job elected for.

And those 1 million should be taken care with struck off nurses.

That is all.

I do find this all very amusing.
Americans having to attack NHS to get at Obama's plan.
Newsflash people: The system we have in UK will not be in use in US.

Are you about to implement the exact same system as the one in UK?

All 300million = free healthcare with the option of going private.
Yes? No?

In all fairness, despite its faults (long waiting lists and a shortage of staff), the NHS is very handy. Sometimes i find going private is way too expensive. I can either compromise my lifestyle through huge medical debts, or i can wait a while on the NHS waiting list. Sure, its irritating. But its free and i get the health care i am rightfully entitled to. I think in many instances it is inefficient and not run as well as it could be but its contributed alot to free health care in this country. The NHS is in need of radical structural reforms, but i would never advocate its abolishment.

On that note, Americans, stop comparing your Presidents damn health care plan with ours, and trying to bombard the NHS with crap deliberately. We have two separate health care systems, or at least will have, and half of the crap in this article ive read so far is untrue. Is this the Daily Mail? If so, your agenda is revealed.

Why aren't you insured??

Because at the time I was working a part time job while attending school. My daughter has affordable health insurance from the state (oh my). I could not, at the time, afford $200-$300 a month to pay for health insurance.

And, you know, the hospital was under the impression that I would qualify for Medicaid and would be able to collect their money from them...it didn't happen. I was rejected. But many people are not. So much for the idea that taxpayers are not paying for other people's healthcare in our current system.

The foreign systems they promote cost much less, provide health care for all, and are higher rated by the World Health Organization.

It's the proudly ignorant right wing that doesn't get it.

well, you better hurry up, you got a million matches to make

the source cited by the bearer of bad news above was the Patients Assn, argue with THEM

is obamacare gonna be exactly like the brits'?

no one can surely say, because our idiot president sent his congresspeople home to face frantic crowds with NO single, coherent bill to sell, defend or promote

that is, the precise shape of reform exists only in that echoing, empty head of 1600 pennsylvania

but we all expect that whatever he contemplates is gonna be kinda close, put it that way

actually, the entire discussion is rather moot

OBAMACARE IN THE UNITED STATES IS DEAD

politically, that is

ask baucus, conrad, bill clinton, feingold, mccaskill, ross, perriello, kratovil, ben nelson, bill nelson, doug elmendorf...

the cbo, the dogs, the gubs, the freshmen...

so sorry

carry on

That's because Obama is using Europe as his model.

US is not getting a UK exact model.

You seem to know more than the people in Congress and the President.

When Obama is asked, he pretends to know nothing about the proposed bills.

In the town hall meetings, the congress critters are clueless about the bills being proposed.

Maybe they should all come to you for a thorough explanation of it.

It's not Americans attacking NHS, it's patient rights advocacy groups in your own country. I'm just posting a story about it.

I believe information on government run health care programs in other countries is a bit relevant to Americans right now.

Why can I only find this story on the one particular news site. Why isn't the BBC covering this story? Why are the only other sites covering this story right wing US blogs?

This is classic fear-mongering. The article itself says:

"The NHS treats millions of people every day and the vast majority of patients experience good quality, safe and effective care - the Care Quality Commission's recent patient experience survey shows that 93 percent of patients rate their overall care as good or excellent."

...what's more this is clearly a nursing issue. Not necessarily correlative with the NHS and certainly not certifiably causative.

Bingo ! You get a kewpie doll. Did you read the final remark in my OP?

Why aren't mainstream media covering this? Easy, it doesn't fit their agenda.
