Ted Kennedy Dies of Brain Cancer at Age 77

As a person, he was a total hypocrite who posited him & his family as being for the "little guy" all the while enjoying a lavish lifestyle that most people in this country wouldn't even dream of...

It has never been a secret that the Kennedy Family is of the elite, privileged class. "American Royalty".
They have never pretended otherwise.
I fail to see why this should preclude them from acknowledging the plight of the oppressed and fighting for human and civil rights.

It is often the case that people on the opposing side wish to point out the flaws of a person's life after they die. Often times, these flaws have little to do with policy making and more to do with other issues.

He sounds like a man who had lost his way during his college years. I'm curious, do you all think that people don't mature and grow up?

Now, his alcoholism is an issue in terms of reputation. That is a serious illness and he needed help. I wish he could have overcome that issue. If there is no proof that he was drunk during the bridge accident nor that he wasn't in shock though, I seem to remember that we consider people innocent until proven guilty in this country. Sounds like the family of the young lady saw him as forthright in the end.

His record is exemplary and I will not go on to argue why. It's evident.

If his comments about women are deserving of disdain, and I think they are, I would hope that you think the same about McCain. I'm a feminist and both sides should keep their anti-women garbage to themselves or get educated and learn something about women. It urks me when this happens.

All of that said, his policy history is great and exemplary. He should be remembered for it.

My what a short memory the forum Liberals have; why it was only a few years ago people like you were telling us how Bush was a school failure and a moron and only got into Harvard and Yale because of his daddy. Yet today you type:

“He sounds like a man who had lost his way during his college years. I'm curious, do you all think that people don't mature and grow up?”

Why it was only a few years ago people like you were telling us how Bush was a a cocaine snorting drunk. Yet today you type:

Why it was only a few years ago people like you were telling us how Bush was a lying corrupt crook. Yet today you type:

My only conclusion can be that you have a profound double standard for what you think is acceptable, what you consider being good Government policy and very selective sensitivity.

When I see such double standards being applied coming from the Bush bashing Conservative haters, what also happens is that your credibility suffers.

I am thinking your credibility is just about zero about now.

Dang.

And all of these years, I though Meals-on-Wheels was designed for the underprivileged. I didn't realize they were delivering caviar and champagne in Manhattan. Silly me.

he could have used his wealth to help others, while living a modest lifestyle

You don't believe that he did? I would beg to disagree with you on that one; his family did indeed give a LOT back to the community; his mother founded the Special Olympics among some of the many altruistic endevours of this wealthy family.

You have to give people credit where credit is due and drop the weak attempts at class envy.

He was one of the passengers. The pilot of the plane and one of Kennedy's aids, Edward Moss, were killed in the plane crash.

Exactly. So what was the point of #5? To illustrate how much of a drunk he was? I dunno, maybe the 5 people who thanked that post can fill me in.

He sounds like a man who had lost his way during his college years. I'm curious, do you all think that people don't mature and grow up?

But he never did grow up, Roadie. It's one thing to be wild in youth and quite another to keep that debauchery going by using your money and power well into your golden years.

Maybe it's because of where I live. But since I was a kid, I've always heard the inside stories on the Kennedy clan. Sure, some of it is idle gossip, but a lot of it rang true.

I can respect some of the Kennedys for their good & charitable works. Teddy was just a beast IMO.

Good riddance!!!!

I already got the obligatory email about "the end of the kennedy dynasty", and just deleted it...

Ted has already been assigned great social importance in association with his brothers, undeserved perhaps, but there is no changing it.

It is ok to lionize the dead, not to demonize them.

It is certainly too late to denigrate him in the eyes of the media. Besides, speaking ill of the dead, however truthful it may be, just makes those doing it look petty.

His body is dead, let his manufactured image die in peace.

Stirring this stew can only make the cook look like a petty and veangeful person.

NO, it doesn't. No one will hold back when Bush dies. I don't care about Teddy or his family, and they don't care about mine.

Very well put, not perfect mind you, but well put just the same.

If you want to have a politician as your hero, and mourn his death, at least pick a good one.
Ted was a jerk in many ways, Bush is an idiot in many ways...
His 8 years guaranteed a democrat in the white house. I said many times, if we get a democrat in the WH, the fault lies with the GOP...

Seems that rose colored glasses are owned by both sides of the political spectrum...:)

Except for a rare few little small tiny grouplet of far lft whackoviduals no one will say the nasty stuff that is coming out about Ted Kennedy.

It's funny when people think that JFK and teddy were ideologically similar..... ;)

that's right since JFK was very moderate and some people even considered a conservative Democrat. Not the good conservatve Democrat like Scoop Jackson was but even on socila ppolicies he actually had to be pushed to the "left".

I saw no "double" standards at all in Roadies posts. When the extremists were calling Bush a person of diminished intelligence most of us reasonable Busg detractors were defending Bush. Many of us even defended him when some people accused him of desertion and AWOL.

Now your tirade against some mythical " Bush bashing Conservative haters" is self serving attacks since you obviously are trying to impune the good credibility of people who may happen to disagree with The Bush. That is a good try on your that tactic just may be saying more about the weakness of your credibility than ours.

Yes, it's such a service that being in the Senate for 50+ years does all of us. I mean, it's not like "serving" in the senate doesn't entitle one to all kinds of personal perks like good pay, extensive benefits, a lucrative retirement package, free office space, and incredibly clout/status/ass-kissing. I mean, Teddy had his own professional staff of ass-kissers.

That's practically identical to humping a 50 pound backpack through a desert in 110F temperatures wearing body armor, and being shot at by the locals.

This is starting to sound like a whiny hollywood actress crying and moaning about the difficulties of fame.

I wonder if you attack all Congressional members with equal vitriol for the "perks like good pay" and for the "professional staff of ass-kissers" or do you just save you vonom for those wose politicis and policies you hate ?

Yet I can understand why you attack the person and not the policies since it is so much more easier to attack the person.

You are kidding? WOW talk about denial.

Both sides do it, none is better than the other.

Because of this we all lose.

He plead guily to leaving the scene of an accident, it was a fix cause he is a kennedy. Mary Jo, never got no justice.

And May America prosper from losing one of the biggest threats to liberty that has ever served in the senate.

What are the "threats to liberty " that Ted Kennedy was responsible for ? I know that he is on the liberal side but I ahd no idea that he in any way violated our constitution!!

Paul Lukasiak thinks that babies and children should be doing this research, since 289,999,999 are all the other people in the country that could have done what he did. Paul Lukasiak seems to be a popular guy here,

I've googled this guy, looks like he's out to make a name for himself.
