Seems a tad light for beating the crap out of a woman and leaving her for dead.

LOS ANGELES – A judge on Tuesday sentenced Chris Brown to five years' probation and six months' community labor for the beating of Rihanna and ordered the R&B singer to stay away from his former girlfriend for the next five years.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg told Brown that he could be sent to state prison if he violated any terms of his sentence, including an order to stay 100 yards away from Rihanna unless they're attending music industry events.

Music industry events happen what ... 3 times a week?

What a load of rubbish. I wonder what he'd have had to do to actually see the inside of jail cell on this one. I personally think he should be facing a much higher sentence, as should anyone who assaults their parter.

Totally agree. Did you read what he did to her? He f'ing BIT her. What kind of crazy FK bites someone? It came out that there were other instances of violence between the two of them. That and based on the beating he gave her that got him arrested, he clearly has a problem, and I hope he somehow breaks his probation so his ass goes into jail, that scumbag. He makes me sick.

Oh hell yeah. I'm usually against wishing ill on people, but this little sliver of scum deserves nothing more than a six foot cell.

I just can't believe he got only probation! I am glad to see that the judge is ordering that he do labor service as opposed to community service (which appears not to involve labor).

I know, I mean, look at the state he left her in! Even just the descriptions of what he did could turn the stomach. How in god's name did he avoid even a short jail sentence?

Be a common citizen.

That's why I am confident he will strike again (pun intended). Anyone who does that much damage to someone (particularly a man against a woman) is a serial abuser who can't control himself.

I tend to agree w/this. I also agree that this dirtbag will break his probabation Hopefully, those terms will be honored.

I love it when we're on the same side of an issue. ;)

Aye, if the reasons he feels he has the right to beat his partner aren't adressed, the wee scmbag WILL do it again. I suppose all we can hope is that he doesn't give the next poor woman to cross his path worse injuries than he gave Rihanna. This little slap on the wrist won't make a blind bit of difference.

She didn't even want to press charges, wanted to continue the relationship, etc. It's a dance, it takes two.

I thought this was interesting.

Donald Etra, Rihanna's attorney, has said he didn't think the strict rules were necessary, but that he and Rihanna favored a less-stringent ruling that simply ordered Brown not to annoy, harass or molest the 21-year-old pop singer. He said after Tuesday's hearing that Rihanna did not object to the stay-away order, which allows the former couple to be within 10 yards of each other if they are attending music industry events.

Schnegg said she was aware of reports that Brown had been spotted on several occasions in the same places as Rihanna.

"I am not amused with the chatter that has been on the airwaves and any violation of your probation in this case comes with the potential for state prison," Schnegg told Brown.

Clearly they're both toxic.

Clearly they're both toxic.

The average domestic violence situation involves over 20 incidences of violence before the police are called in, or before the woman leaves. I hardly think we can call Rihanna "toxic" for feeling able to be in the same room as Brown. This situation reflects badly on only one person, and that's the arsehole that thinks he has the right to bite and batter women.

The two of them together are toxic. The law had stepped in and protected her before. He already wasn't allowed around her and yet they are photographed together and rumored to be back together.

Now he faces jail time if he's caught around her.

I imagine we haven't heard the last of this screwed up story. You're right it is absolutely not her fault that he did that to her but when he does it again she will be somewhat complicit in that she keeps going back.

She is back with him? o_O
What is she drunk or just stupid?

And to OP: The sentence was disgustingly light but that is to be expected with celebrity.

Well it didn't help matters that she apparently didn't even want to press charges and they had to haul his ass in without any real legit support from her.

She is setting herself up for another smack around by him. She was foolish to not press charges and stand fully behind the law.

Brown says he doesn't remember hitting Rihanna

Chris Brown says he still loves Rihanna - CNN.com

Oooooh, I know what he's going to claim. "I was so crazed, I don't even remember what I did." Oh give me a break. That's a f'ing lie, and he knows it. Oh, and he still loves her? What? Do you miss your punching bag?

I can get over the fact that he says he still loves her. I can't quite wrap my head around the notion that she still loves him. :doh

Excuse me? She has said she still loves him? Oh boy.

I remember watching a video in a Human Behaviors class, that had a young woman who openly said her boyfriend hit her, but she said that somehow she loved him more after he hit her than before.
