Swine Flu May Cause 90,000 U.S. Deaths, Report Says

10 cases were already found today at my school here in Fort Worth. Give me a break people. How is a disease and it's impact a partisan - us vs. them - issue. The paranoia of some Americans really has gotten to science fiction type levels. The fantasy is amazing.

I haven't heard a thing about the swine flu virus in a couple of months and suddenly it's a "possibility" that it will kill 90k people? I smell a rope a dope.

That's somewhat due to how flus work. Remember that the Spanish influenza I believe started off rather mild. It's winter season after mutations that experts are scared of. The flu we know now is not that threatening, but given how this strain got to be where it is now (all mixed up with DNA from many species), who knows what it will be in November or September?

I'd love for someone to explain to my how Obamacare would avert this problem.

H1N1 did not actually come from pigs, and it is damaging to the swine industry to call it as such.

Just some food for thought.:)

The disease isn't. The timing on it being mentioned again in the media and the "90,000 possible deaths" (which is just speculation) from it is.

Even if that's accurate (I'd need a few more sources before I jump on the belief bandwagon since I am not at all familiar with that source and it conflicts with what I've read recently on the subject), and 25 people have died from the vaccine, many more people have died from the swine flu itself than 25.

But the mail online article that came from "leaked" info conflicts with this report from a source I actually am familiar with and trust: Swine Flu Vaccine Seems Safe in Early Trials - US News and World Report

The plain ole flu kills more people annually than the Swine Flu anyway.

We'd better pass HCR asap.

Regular Flu Kills 36,000 Americans Every Year | The Blog of Record

In 2009, CDC published additional estimates of flu-related deaths comparing different methods, including the methods used in the 2003 JAMA study. The seasons studied included the 1993-94 through the 2002-03 flu seasons. Results from this study showed that during this time period, 36,171 flu-related deaths occurred per year, on average.

Didn't Dear Leader say this wasn't going to be a problem?

Every single year there's some new horrible disease that the media says is going to kill us all. Remember SARS and Avian Flu? Fact is, Americans were more likely to die from vending machines falling on them than swine flu during the whole scare. If they have a vaccine in production, great, don't see why not, but the whole scare was just silly

Hmmm I made some money off of swine flu vaccine. What a way to earn a buck or two off of peoples misery.

I don't doubt it, a bit. But, I'm a little more informed than your average bear.

How does:

Obama Says Swine Flu is Cause for Concern, Not Panic

=

Didn't Dear Leader say this wasn't going to be a problem?

Maybe I'm just not looking at the words properly, but when I read things like "This is obviously a cause for concern and requires a heightened state of alert," I don't conclude that the person is saying this "won't be a problem."

I'd love for someone to explain how any form of reasonable healthcare would avert this problem.

And technically, preventive medicine should at least reduce the number of infections by keeping people in a state where they would be more likely to fend off an infection. Keeping people healthy and staving off disease would pose a better system than a system that cures and fixes problems as they arise.

My daughter had swine flu. She took Tamaflu, and is fine. All without Obamacare.
