The fear works in Congress too. Look at how many dems backed the Iraq War.
I am a dem, and I don't buy that it scared the dem's. The reason they voted for it was they had no backbone to contest the GOP who were riding a wave of popularity.
We often want to blame the GOP for our involvement in Iraq, but the Dem's allowed it to happen without one gripe. They refused to challenge the intelligence or the prez.
When you go to a store, and you see a child being a brat and the parents refuse to discipline the child, who should be smacked the kid or the parents for letting the child be a brat?
The GOP and GW were given the keys to the kingdom with no opposition from the dems, so they went to Iraq and created a fiasco.
In a nut shell, we went there without the opposing party questioning it, granted we'd probably be in Iraq anyways because the Dems didn'th have the votes, but maybe we'd of slowed down and required more accurate intelligence.
