French pool bans 'burkini' swim

Really? Then maybe they should stop oppressing women by telling them what and what not to wear.

You mean the men that brain wash them, with there (theoretically evident) oppressive approach to Islam which actually isn't the religion itself therefore non discriminative? Dont worry, we are stopping that. If this interpretation of Islam promotes female oppression, it has no place in our society; if you can tolerate such things and live with yourself, go ahead. Thankfully, it seems France has a conscience.

Dont tell me, we are discriminating against terrorists because there interpretation of Islam says strap a bomb to yourself and kill anything that doesnt swear allegiance to Allah and Shariah law, yet we have banned the availibility of C4's and any other warfare based weapon in public? Fine.

Dude, the chick is not being forced to wear the thing by anyone. She wasn't even raised under Islam. She is a French chick who converted, and she wants to dress like an idiot, completely of her own volition. She is being oppressed by a a sanctimonious self-righteous group of people who consider regard themselves as liberators for forcing people to conform to their own (obviously superior ) idea of what to wear.

Free women wear whatever they want. Oppressed women are told what and what not to wear. Those who support laws telling women what or what not to wear are oppressors. Those who support banning outfits that they don't like are oppressors.

In other words, you.

The club I belong to doesn't allow clothes in the pool at all. Swimsuits only. For whatever reason many if not most public pools have this rule.

The interpretation its self is opressive against women and is counter to western law, and its against our interests as a progressive society to allow such things. If they are not forced, great, but they are, by an absolute majority, brainwashed and forced by there male dominants.

PS: Who the hell are you on about in specific?

This law liberates such women, your getting confused.

In other words, you.

And the whole of France.

I can't stand all that garb. However forcing them out of it isn't all that different from forcing them into it.

As for the bold bit it's all relative. At most public pools you can go topless while I can't.

You all do know that this "ban" at most effects 400 women in France right?

Whoever told you that you weren't being oppressed is lying to you. If it makes you feel any better, I am being oppressed to a somewhat lesser degree.

Seriously. I think people should wear whatever they want. I also think that women should want to swim topless. And women should want to laugh a lot at the pool. Yeah.

Pete, 10 years from now mate, and it'll affect 20,000 women in France.

And?

Plus I seriously question the health aspects of that "burkini".. at least with normal bikini or one piece you can see if the person has taken a bath the last week.

Thats my point. If we don't ban them now, at the beginning of its roots, and we do it for later, its going to affect more people uneccessarily in the future, might as well get it done now. Not that Europe has any place for these people in society anyway, i think banning them will liberate them totally and help free up the backward thinkers we have in excess over here in Europe.

Carole obviously wasn't brainwashed by a male dominant.

Dude, did you not read the link from your own post? Carole, the chick who said all the stuff in the OP.

You are going to sit there and tell me that a law forbidding women to wear a burka liberates them from oppressive laws that tyrannically allow them to wear whatever they want, and then tell me that I am getting confused?

How can you possibly confuse telling people what and what not to wear with "liberating" them?

And the whole of France.

And the French idiots that approved this stupid law anyways.

Perhaps if you were "liberated" by being forced not to wear any clothes at all, you would be less of a backward thinker.

Forget Carole, im not interested in "unique" cases.

When those women are forced to wear Burka's in the first place, i think a law forbidding them will help liberate them from those traps, yes.

How can you possibly confuse telling people what and what not to wear with "liberating" them?

If that interpretation bullies women into wearing them, sometimes not giving them the choice is the best thing to happen to them. I think this piece of legislation is for the people, even though it may restrict a certain thing.

I wish some of the obese hispanic woman that swim in the public areas at the lake would take these into consideration. Instead they swim in white bras and underwear and you know what happens when it becomes wet. Eww!

Park officals will tell them to leave and dress in swim wear but untill they arrive you are left trying to find a safe area to place your eyes.

And the French idiots that approved this stupid law anyways.

There is no law banning the Burka or Burkini.

French Muslim convert threatens legal action over 'burkini' ban | World news | guardian.co.uk
The local authorities in Emerainville said the case had nothing to do with Islam, but regulations stated that garments bigger than standard swimsuits, including men's board-shorts, could not be worn in pools for hygiene reasons.

This has nothing to do with any ban on burkas (which there is not) but is a health issue.

This woman is the one that is brining the supposed "ban" which does not exist into the picture and using her "religion" as another lightning rod in a society that is secular. If she wants to live under Islamic law, move to an Islamic country and suffer the consequence.

This is no different than a public pool in the US banning topless women or any other sort of "clothing".. like say wearing shoes in the pool.

Sit there and tell me you wouldn't mind your bits and bots hanging about and swinging on a daily bases, and tell me you wouldn't mind the same for other people in public. Except for tree huggers, i think pretty much everybody would agree that banning of public nudity has nothing to do with being backwards, but protecting ones sanity.

I think we were talking about this part:

In June the French National Assembly appointed 32 MPs to a six-month fact-finding mission to look at ways of restricting burka use.

In a major policy speech that month, President Nicolas Sarkozy said the burka - a garment covering women from head to toe - reduced them to servitude and undermined their dignity.

"We cannot accept to have in our country women who are prisoners behind netting, cut off from all social life, deprived of identity," Mr Sarkozy told a special session of parliament in Versailles.

In 2004, France banned the Islamic headscarves in its state schools.

I was replying to Kaya and Kormyr's declaration of support for banning burkas.

I wouldn't mind really. It would only garner me some well earned respect for my overpowering manliness.

You missed the point however, which was that if those tree huggers thought that all clothes were oppressive, and had enough guns and manpower, they could "liberate" you by forcing you to go around naked.

Of course, since you have been "brainwashed" by our society, instead of feeling liberated, you would feel naked and exposed, and would wish you could wear the clothes that you prefer.

But given time, you may come to appreciate being freed from our societies oppressive expectation to cover your natural self, and then you would obviously hail the tree-huggers as your heroes and liberators, for forcing you to be free from the constraints of social modesty.

Or maybe they would just be oppressive scumbags for forcing you to go around naked, when you would rather wear clothes.

When those women are forced to wear Burka's in the first place, i think a law forbidding them will help liberate them from those traps, yes.

Nope. If a woman is stupid enough to obey a religion that demands she hide from public by wearing a tent, then it's up to her to discard the tent. She has legal recourse to get her husband or anyone else arrested who uses or threatens physical violence against her for not becoming a walking camping ground, but that's that.

The paranoids in France have banned the wearing of religious jewelry in public schools, too.

However, wearing clothes while swimming is a no-no, if they don't want to obey those rules, they don't have to go swimming. Again, it's her choice.

Only people wear clothes out of free will, the majority of the Burka wearing women, as described by there approach to Islam, are bullied into certain things my there male counterparts and wrapping up like a Ninja would be one of them.

Of course, since you have been "brainwashed" by our society, instead of feeling liberated, you would feel naked and exposed, and would wish you could wear the clothes that you prefer.

No, not brainwashed at all. I mainly wear clothes because i want to be protected by weather and i don't want other people seeing my bits, thanks.

But given time, you may come to appreciate being freed from our societies oppressive expectation to cover your natural self, and then you would obviously hail the tree-huggers as your heroes and liberators, for forcing you to be free from the constraints of social modesty.

Some people actually do find themselves in this position, but by nature im not a tree hugging hippy whack job, so i wouldn't confine to there ideals.

Or maybe they would just be oppressive scumbags for forcing you to go around naked, when you would rather wear clothes.

Again, the majority rather not wear them. I used to know this one muslim woman who wore it to cover up her bruises and scars from her husband and because she was scared other men would see her, her husband put all sorts of ideas into her head it was truly saddening.

But she's been taught thats acceptable and expected by her male counterpart.

Well, thats bad.

I agree.

Good.
Getting into the pool with your clothes on is illegal in my pool, so this is a legitimate act.

I don't want other people seeing my bits, either. Have something of a preference for not having to see other peoples' bits while I'm out in public, either. I'm sure these women feel much the same way... they just have a longer list of bits they don't want on display than you or I do.

Then again, I'm fairly certain that my list of bits is somewhat more inclusive than yours as well.

Good.

That was a perfectly legitimate swimsuit she was wearing. Unless you insist that your guests swim entirely in the nude, I think you are overreaching. And if you think that public swimming pools should only permit swimming in the nude, I don't think I want you making my laws.
