You know, considering that french men routinely swim in speedos, I can't imagine any French facility banning this kind of swim suit. If there is anything in poorer taste than an old frenchman in a speedo, I don't know what that would be.

There is another custom that says that people can't walk naked in the street, or that you can't swim naked in public swiming pools. Same principle.
Do they ban nun habits too?

Is it freedom if you aren't allowed to choose your own clothing? Just curious.

You keep saying the word freedom. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Old Italian men in speedos, because now one adds the enviromental damage of the oil spill.

lol you're right, it's quite paradoxical to advocate freedom by banning something

But what? We both know that in many cases, they are obliged to wear these things. So
    - if there is no ban, those who are forced to wear burqas, burkinis...keep on wearing them, which is a bad thing
    - if there is a ban, those who were forced to wear them are "free", which is a good thing, but those who had freely chosen to wear them are "humiliated", which is a bad thing

Re: French pool bans 'burkini' swim

It is wrong and I have never understood while here is the USA we have such strict codes about public swimming pools because not everyone wishes to wear swimsuits with all their bits hanging out

While I may wear a bathing suit? I have no problem with folks jumpining into my pool or hot tub with what some would consider "street" clothes. Some women do not feel comfy in the bathing suits and like to wear shorts and a tank top or whatever. Why is it ok for males to wear those baggy long trunks but women are suppose to wear certain things. I do not understand this mindset. I have a female friend who goes to lake and beach with me sometimes and she wears mens long swimming trunks and a t-shirt because that is what she feels comfy wearing. I do not see a problem with this.

Also one time we went to waterpark and the workers there tried to give us a problem over her wearing same thing that men would wear. Needless to say we ended up getting into that waterpark and had a wonderful time!

Dear god. What ****ing logic is there behind such a move? Cleaner pools? Bull****ing ****. The burkini is made of swimsuit material, iirc. The only other argument I've heard is that France is trying to "liberate" Muslim women by dictating what they can and cannot wear. How anyone could even attempt to defend such an asinine line of reasoning is beyond me.
