What's that show? The Nobel Peace prize is different than the Nobel Prize in physics. Maybe if Al Gore had received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry or something, you'd have a point. But he didn't, so you don't. While Hawking contributed to theory, and specifically Hawking radiation can be used to explain many things, nothing has come from Hawking's theories in practice. And there are many many more physicists (alive today) whom have had a larger impact on science, some of who I have previously listed (do you even know who those people are or what they did).

I couldn't believe I read a book by Stephen Hawking and pretty much understood it all. I even disagreed with one part of it where he speculates that if the earth came to a stop heding outwards and started moving back to the center of the big bang that everything would happen in reverse time. I didn't buy that.

The book was A Brief History of Time I think is the correct title.

LOL In Legally Blonde one of the freshmen in a sort of pow wow says that Hawking stole his idea for the book from his fourth grade paper. :mrgreen:
 
In regards to physics =science I completely disagree with him and I think he has contributed greatly in misleading the public about the essence of physics= science and his impact on the perception of the public is rather negative.

On other hand I understand he did not intend. He cannot be classified only as a Cosmologist; he does not belong to the same league as a$$hole and charlatan Carl Sagan.
As well, I do not deny that the public has deserved to be misled.

I admire Hawking as a human, and as a mathematician, and as a poet of science. He has served as a scientist for scientists, often as a target, but always as a value. In all of all he has served as an example of abilities and freedom of human mind and human spirit. Judging by the name of the medal, the medal of freedom is well deserved by this man, and it is well overdue. He has served for science, ready to admit and admitting to be wrong and to be a target for exercises of science, but not be caring about prize, not even about the Nobel prize; - and that is the highest servitude.

My prayer goes to him and to his wife. What a great demonstration that we humans are not owned by our bodies, but we own the universe and our bodies! God bless you, Mr.Hawking and your wife!

What do you disagree with him about? What are your scientific credentials?

Huh? Why was Carl Sagan an asshole and charlatan? No one since Asimov has done more to popularize and teach science than Carl Sagan.

At least he didn't award it to Shalala, Tenet, or Bremer.......

Hawking is vastly more deserving then those failures.

Yeah, kind of forgot about Tenet and Bremer. If those were two undeserving picks I do not know what is then; they get a medal for failure and incompetence? I guess for some, picking Stephen Hawking for this award all depends on who is giving the award wouldn't you say?
 
I don't see why Hawking deserves this as opposed to other physicists whose work has been much more influential and profound in terms of advancing that field of science. Hawking is only famous for his disability and his work on black holes, which was largely conceptual and whose mathematical proofs were done by graduate students.
