Too bad the Darwin Awards have already been given out for 2009. This would have been a sure winner. However, there is always 2010.

Someone cuts you off or does something stupid? Breath out, relax, let them get a bit away from you if they're going over the speed limit, and go on. Riding on the bike is fun and relaxing, no reason to let it ramp your stress and anger up.
    Somebody took the msf.....

After getting into an accident recently and wrecking my bike / knee, all because I was trying to avoid a car that slammed on their breaks when not really needed (granted, the gravel from construction was the larger problem), this just pisses me off. I got up, blamed myself as I should've, and moved along instead of having some intense hatred for a guy that did something while driving that just about everyone that's been behind the wheel has been guilty of once before

Gravel sucks, yeah you are so right you can't blame the idiot in the car, cause no matter what he does. you gotta be able to control your bike, he can be wrong all day long, you can still be dead from his stupidity... add gravel to that and damn.... I see gravel, I slow way way down, way down, like bicycle speed..

How long you been riding, and what do you ride?

My nephew was killed last week in Pinellas county driving a Kawasaki into a palm tree at 60mph.pulled out to pass, didn't see the oncoming car.Five year old daughter, devastated family. When you do risky things you need to remember that it isn't just you on the cycle,Its your whole family.

That sucks. But stories like this say more about the deceased than the motorcyling community as a whole.....

Let me ask you a few questions.

    how old was the nephew?

    What kind of kawasaki?

How long has he been riding?

    What gear was he wearing?

Why did he pull out to pass if the lane was not clear?

I feel bad for the family......

Ya know, I drive a big barge of a cargo van, with some fairly sizeable blind spots. I do my best to watch for motorcycles, I mean, running over people isn't usually worth the hassle, but wtf am I supposed to do when a moron decides to hover in a blind spot, when they can't see the turn signal and I can't see them?

Answer: If I can't see them, they must not be there, and sometimes they can get real pissy about that.

Ended up swinging out wider than I wanted to go, and the gravel was out a bit farther than it usually is from the mid section of this segment of road because I guess construction had moved down to that quadrant of it during the day. Bike got squirely and I managed to straighten it out but by that point straight was directly into a curb. Thankfully by that point was just going maybe 10-20 mph I'm imagine if that. Hard to really gauge it from my own stand point in the crash.

I just started at the end of last fall, though that was all in parking lots. First time out on the road in any major way was March.

I got myself a cheap little China import called a Zongshen. Little 250cc sport bike, $1200 brand new with the shipping at the time. After taking the class I still wasn't POSITIVE if I was going to be comfortable and enjoy riding out on the road. Add to that the fact that I was getting it initially fully with gas mileage in mind (I actually purchased it back when gas was $4.00 a gallon so I figured I'd probably pay it off in gas prices within a year). I figured I'd go with an inexpensive bike at first to get a feel for it, see if I like it, and if I did resell it and get a better one next season. I figured up here near the DC area where there are scooters out the wazoo a 250cc bike could've probably netted me 80%-90% of initial value if I resold it within the year in good condition.

Not so much now I imagine :\

Need a new clutch handle, a new shift pedal, a new left blinker, a new wind shield, and the body is a little scratched up. Not as bad as it could be though.

Talking to the distributor tomorrow to see how much the parts will be and a local shop to see what installation would cost (if I can't just figure out how to do it myself) to at least get it up and running so I can ride.

It works great for getting to work. It only tops out about 70 but I rarely go that fast (65 is about the tops I'll go on the main strip of road to work), but I only work 10 minutes away so a weeks worth of driving on the bike was a days worth of gas in my car just about.

My girlfriend just got a hand me down for $1200 from her soon to be brother-in-laws uncle, a 1980's (Forget the exact year) Honda CB450, though I've actually road it more than her so far (just down to the motorcycle shop for it to get its initial look at...they're ordering a light for it).

I figure I'll ride hers a bit to get a feel for a cruiser, as come next year the decision has to be made if I'm wanting to get an actual "real" (at 250 mine may as well be a scooter) sport bike or get myself a cruiser.

(and yes, you don't have to point out my GF now has a bigger bike than me. Why do you think I'm not heart broken mines busted up and I have an excuse for a new one )
