What do you expect? There isn't a lot of legitimate market for that skillset, and it'd be foolish to think you can train so many people in such valuable skills and not expect some of them to make a profit from them.

Personally, I think as long as he's not killing Americans and his sideline isn't impeding his official duties, it's no harm no foul. If anything, it's helping him stay sharp.

I would say that his ties to this cartel long predate his participation in the military.

It is worrisome indeed. Yet, during the past four years or so, the military has been forced to lower standards in order to recruit, so having such people may be more widespread than in the past.

The thing that is worrisome about these cartels is that they've already co-opted the military and police forces on the south side of the border. They've moved on to recruiting criminal street gang members to do their dirty work in the U.S. This has been a huge problem in Arizona (see highest kidnapping rate in the U.S.), California, New Mexico, and Texas. Not only do they heavily arm their recruits (and they participate in training), but they are recruiting what amounts to American teenagers.

Well, Unless he killed his target with a Patriot Missile he really did not use his army skills per se.

Read the article. Amateur hour all the way and he killed the target on US soil.

So they should legalize marijuana and deal a great blow to the pockets of the cartels. Case closed.

That's a nice thought, but I doubt it would play out like that. Are you going to legalize cocaine and meth, too? The cartels are major dealers in those products. Also, the street gangs in the U.S. aren't really funded all that much by mj. They are mostly turf gangs, not dope gangs.

In that case, we should utilize the CIA to wipe-out the cartels with our own brand of hits.

There are not many options here. You can only:

    1. Take away the profit by legalizing drugs. But people don't want to do that for whatever reason.
    2. Send troops into Mexico. Not going to happen.
    3. Seal the damn border.
Wow. Am I awesome or what?
