'80s teen flick director John Hughes dies in NYC | Comcast.net

NEW YORK — A spokeswoman for John Hughes says the director of 1980s coming-of-age films like "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club" has died in Manhattan.

Michelle Bega says the 59-year-old Hughes died of a heart attack during a morning walk. He was in Manhattan to visit family.

He made a teen star of Molly Ringwald with 1984's "Sixteen Candles" about a girl's nightmarish birthday on the eve of her sister's wedding.

Ringwald also starred in "The Breakfast Club," about a group of high school misfits during Saturday detention, and "Pretty in Pink."

Hughes also directed "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and wrote "Home Alone." He lived in Illinois and set many of his films in the Chicago area.

Bummer I always enjoyed his movie;s he was one of the first directors to use Alterative/New Wave/Punk Music in his films.

R.I.P.

The Breakfast Club was a great film and the theme song is wonderful.

I grew up watching those movies. Sure, they may seem silly to some now, but who cares? I loved them.

Hughes was brilliant. He directed a lot of my favorite movies, especially Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller. I think Ferris Bueller was actually about his friend, Cameron.

I think I'll watch it tonight after work. ;)

"SAVE FERRIS"

I'm gonna watch Home Alone tonight (1 & 2, two of his masterpieces, IMO) in honor of Hughes

I wouldn't call ita "great film" it did resonate with the teenagers and maybe early twenties due to the highschool theme.

The biggest thing that it did was to help Molly Ringworm but I am not sure that it was good thing to give Molly Ringworm exposure.
