Senate confirms Sotomayor for Supreme Court

Obviously you didn't read the whole speech tell me what kind of racial and sexual discrimination is prevalent among white males in our society?
I read the whole speech, and her wise Latina comment was still racist. Period. She may have misspoken, but it is a racist comment nonetheless.

And for discrimination against white people, try Affirmative action. I am sure you have also heard about the firefighters Sotomayor ruled against as well.

But how white males might be discriminated against is beside the point. Sotomayor made a racist comment, and no matter what context you put it in it is still racist.

Ah HA, so you want an Activist Judge who will disregard the law, and simply rule on how they see fit.

Hypocrite Alert - * - Hypocrite Alert - * - Hypocrite Alert

Were they being activist with their ruling in Brown vs Board of Education by ignoring the Supreme Court precedent set in Plessy vs Ferguson?

It will be intereting too see just how many of those who voted against her still have a job after the next election cycle.

Likely every single one of them unless they choose to retire. Nobody is going to lose reelection for not voting to confirm Sotomayor.

Really how many jobs have you lost to minorities? How many times have you gotten paid lower than a woman doing your job? Discrimination against white males rarely happens. Look at Lilly ledbetter she worked at Goodyear for decades and only when she retired did she find out that she got paid less than her male counterparts. Pay discrimination is real against woman.

It was not racist. You think its racist because you've already drawn your conclusion. Someone who has been sexually and racially discriminated against is more likely to be more sensitive to such issues than white males who rarely are.

I've heard about the firefighters. As this happened in my state I've been abreast of the situation. They changed the test to multiple choice and minorities were disproportionately scoring lower. Nonetheless half of the minorities who took it passed the test. There were 2 qualified hispanics out of the 8 people who were chosen all were white then the tests were reviewed and things changed. Sotomayor's ruling supported existing precendent she ruled with the lower courts as did many of her colleagues. The supreme court overruled precendent. In this case the justices were activists. But since we're on the firefighter case lets flash back to 1995.

Ricci filed another lawsuit against the city of New Haven in 1995. There were 40 job openings when Ricci was trying to get a job. He had a learning disability even though he was qualified many others were more qualified having passed the Civil Service examination. When Ricci didn't get the job he sued the city for discrimination. Two years later the case was resolved and Ricci settled with the city in exchange for a job. So the system seemed to work out for him and he gamed it again

Again there was no racism in her ruling she followed case law. You're trying to fit the data around your conclusion.

The day I graduated high school, I took the NYPD test. As it was my life long ambition to be a nyc cop...

I passed the test in the 98%. This was during the dinkins admin.

I was told flat out, that because I was white, I would not be considered before blacks, latinos, and women, who only had to score 65%....

That was the day, I decided I never wanted to be a NYPD officer.
